WSO2con 2014: Why Telcos Need to Benefit from Digital Storm

At a time when smart devices are connecting more number of people than ever before, the digital universe of connectivity is fast expanding beyond just smartphones and mobiles to include smart and digital gear and operators need to benefit from this digital storm.

Dr. Hans Wijayasuriya, Director/Group Chief Executive, Dialog Axiata PLC Sri Lanka spoke about realizing the full potential of this digital storm and why it is important for the telecom ecosystem. He was speaking during the inaugural session of WSOcon , happening at Colombo, Sri Lanka.

“Today, we are living in a digital age where more and more devices are being connected. Operators must exploit this digital storm and drive an all inclusive connectivity to capture this emerging opportunity. By the year 2020, there will be more than 50,000 million devices connected to the Internet and this will result in 50 times growth in the digital universe of an always on connectivity-led people, businesses and things and Asia holds huge potential here as a smartphone will be affordable will be affordable to 54 per cent Asians by 2015 and more than 80 per cent by 2020. In this kind of scenario, digital services will be irrelevant unless and until these services transform lives and create big impact. Hence operators should move towards this direction in the fast lane,” he explained.

Talking about connected business and the huge potential it is opening for the overall ecosystem, Sanjiva Weerawarana Ph. D  Founder, Chairman & CEO, WSO2 said that connected business are set to drive a new wave of growth for the overall ecosystem.
