Tracfone marks 30 Years with new accessibility partnerships

From its launch as the country’s first no-contract wireless option to a leading prepaid carrier on Verizon’s award-winning network, Tracfone has spent 30 years proving that reliable wireless service doesn’t require a long-term commitment or a premium price. As the brand marks this milestone, it is also announcing a new partnership with Be My Eyes, making Tracfone Customer Assistance available through the Be My Eyes Service Directory and bringing real-time, video-based mobile support to blind and low-vision customers.

“Reliable mobile service is a necessity for navigating modern life, but setting up a device, swapping a SIM card, or checking serial numbers on packaging can create unnecessary visual barriers,” said Mike Buckley, CEO of Be My Eyes. “By bringing trained specialists into our Service Directory 24/7, Tracfone is demonstrating a real commitment to accessibility. Together, we’re ensuring their blind and low vision customers have the fast, secure, and independent support they deserve, whenever they need it.”

Together, these moments reflect what has always driven Tracfone: the belief that reliable, accessible wireless should work for everyone.

Tracfone

Three decades in the making

Tracfone launched in 1996 as a pioneering no-contract wireless option available to everyday Americans and quickly began shaping what the prepaid category could be. The brand became the first mass market national prepaid provider in 2000, pioneered the prepaid model in 2001, and introduced unlimited talk and text plans in the years that followed. After joining Verizon in 2021, Tracfone brought its first unlimited plan, Tracfone Freedom, to market along with the launch of Tracfone Home Internet.

“For 30 years, Tracfone has proven that reliable, affordable wireless doesn’t have to be a compromise,” said Mike Sarcone, VP of Commercial Growth at Verizon. “From expanding accessibility features to joining partners like Be My Eyes and AARP, we remain committed to delivering simple, accessible, and high-value service to all our customers.”

Known for providing its customers with unmatched flexibility and value, Tracfone is also proud to offer new and existing active military and veteran customers with 10% off $20/mo or higher unlimited talk & text plans year-round.

30th anniversary offers

To mark the occasion, Tracfone is rolling out limited time offers including:

Tracfone Freedom for just $30/month—locked in for 30 months (Starts 8/26): New customers can lock in the Tracfone Freedom unlimited plan (regularly $50/month) for just $30/month with auto-refill—a 30% discount guaranteed for a full 30 months, as long as service stays active.

Expanding access: Partnerships built for everyone

Staying connected to what matters most, like family, healthcare and everyday routines, should be simple for people of all ages and abilities. As Tracfone marks 30 years, the brand is deepening its commitment to accessibility through two key partnerships designed to meet customers where they are.

Be My Eyes: Tracfone’s new partnership with Be My Eyes brings real-time visual assistance to blind and low-vision customers. The free platform connects users with sighted volunteers and company representatives via live video call, serving more than 1 million users through a network of 10 million volunteers across 150+ countries and 180+ languages. Through the Be My Eyes Service Directory, customers can now reach a trained Tracfone specialist 24/7 simply by pointing their smartphone camera and receive step-by-step guidance on everything from activating a device or SIM card to refilling service or resolving network issues.

“Accessibility means meeting people where they are, at the moment they need help most,” said Fred Moltz, Chief Accessibility Officer at Verizon. “Through Be My Eyes, Tracfone is doing exactly that. Blind and low-vision customers now have 24/7 access to a trained specialist via video call, no appointments, no delays. What matters is what this signals: that accessibility isn’t a separate program or an afterthought. It’s fundamental to who Tracfone is.”

OATS from AARP: Now entering its second year, Tracfone’s partnership with Older Adult Technology Services (OATS), the nonprofit arm of AARP, continues to close the digital divide for older Americans. In 2025, OATS hosted Tracfone-branded workshops at Senior Planet Centers across the country where participants reported a 57-percentage-point increase in feeling less alone, and a 46-point jump in comfort using a smartphone, tablet, or computer. In 2026, the partnership expands with continued Senior Planet Center workshops, select retail presence, and appearances at policy events that spotlight Verizon’s broader commitment to older adults.

Together, these partnerships reflect what has always set Tracfone apart: the belief that everyone deserves reliable, accessible wireless, no matter their age, ability, or background.
