RGB Networks Partners Pi Telecom for Cloud-based OTT

RGB Networks,·a provider of unified solutions for multiscreen video delivery,·has partnered with Pi Telecom, a specialist in the development of interactive IP video solutions, to deliver a full, end-to-end software-based OTT solution. As a subsidiary of top Russian system integrator BCC, Pi Telecom represents the integrator's operations outside of Russia.

With the rise of video-on-demand (VOD) and nDVR as essential TV Everywhere services, operators are actively looking for solutions that ensure they can attract and engage a generation of increasingly mobile viewers. Equally, given the business flexibility and potential cost-savings offered by moving applications to cloud-based platforms, these same operators are keen to take advantage of the new and exciting opportunities available to them. Through this pioneering, joint offering, Pi Telecom and RGB Networks address this mounting two-fold demand.

Pi Telecom's MediaStage family of products enables the realisation of a wide range of interactive TV solutions and can be integrated seamlessly with existing services for a Hybrid IPTV/OTT service, or scaled up to accommodate a full scale OTT rollout. And, when coupled with RGB's software-based transcoding/packaging portfolio, as part of its CloudXtream initiative, providers are delivered a reliable, end-to-end OTT/IPTV solution that is unmatched by other vendors in the market. Capable of being hosted in either public or private cloud environments, the solution can be quickly deployed and can instantly scale to accommodate customer demand. The partnership offers smaller European operators the ability to take advantage of moving applications to agile cloud environments as part of their long-term business plans.

“From our conversations with providers we understand that they are looking for a cost effective, end-to-end solution capable of delivering a full range of services to a myriad of devices, regardless of network,' said Arie Aig, CEO at Pi Telecom. 'MediaStage ' integrated with RGB's transcoding and packaging products ' enables rapid introduction of services. We chose RGB Networks for its broad, operational experience and the high-quality and reliability of its product portfolio.'

The solution has already been deployed with Megafon, one of the Russia’s largest mobile operators, delivering more than 200 live channels and a full range of services with nDVR, VOD and providing access on STB, tablet and smartphones.

'Our CloudXtream initiative is an essential development in the future of 21st century OTT TV delivery. By supporting the delivery of essential multiscreen technologies like high-performance packagers and transcoders in a virtualised setting, our solution ensures operators can maximise on the agility of the cloud,' said Andy Salo, VP of product management at RGB Networks. 'By uniting with eminent developers like Pi Telecom, we are offering video service providers (VSPs) a competitive, future-proof solution that buoys the multiscreen business case and ensures operators, and the consumer focussed services they deliver, stay at the forefront of an increasingly competitive market.'
