Indian Railways Selects RAD and HBL Engineering to Improve Network

RAD, a global enabler of advanced networking solutions, has announced its engagement with HBL Engineering Ltd. to supply an advanced networking solution supporting HBL’s KAVACH deployment for Indian Railways.

The engagement brings together HBL Engineering’s expertise in railway signalling and KAVACH solutions with RAD’s networking technology, supporting the reliable and efficient communication infrastructure required for modern railway applications. KAVACH is India’s indigenous Automatic Train Protection (ATP) system, developed for enhancing railway safety and supporting advanced train operations. HBL Engineering has been a key participant in the development and deployment of KAVACH and has secured multiple contracts for KAVACH projects across Indian Railways.

Under the engagement, RAD will supply a complete management platform including customized Layer 2 and Layer 3 industrial grade networking solution to HBL Engineering for use in the KAVACH project. The solution is designed to provide robust Ethernet connectivity and support the networking requirements of mission-critical railway infrastructure.

Tuhin Dutta, RAD’s India Country Manager, said: “We are proud to be associated with HBL Engineering for this prestigious railway project and to contribute RAD’s networking expertise to the KAVACH ecosystem. RAD has long-standing experience in providing reliable solutions for train operators and critical infrastructure operations worldwide. Fail-safe communications infrastructure is a critical component of modern railway systems, and we are pleased to support HBL Engineering with our networking technology for this important application.”

MVV Vidyasagar, President of the Electronics Group at HBL Engineering, said: “KAVACH Networking ensures fail-safe operations and is complete with multiple levels of redundancy for seamless switchover to avoid any loss of critical information.

“HBL approached RAD for a customized solution meeting Indian Railways’ specific design architecture. It had to meet RDSO standards, certification criteria, and most importantly, comply with the Indian Government’s DOT certifications (MTCTE) and Security Compliances (NSDTS). RAD has delivered on every point.”

Vidyasagar added, “RAD was quick in delivering initial prototypes for lab trials which went smoothly as per our engineering expectations.”

The collaboration reflects the commitment of both organizations to support the modernization of India’s railway infrastructure through advanced, reliable, and locally relevant technology solutions.
