Playing video games is quite fun and there’re millions of game fans worldwide. Also, there’re numerous games released every year. I’m also a video game lover and my favorite titles are Call of Duty and Battlefield.

However, recently, I’m confused about a question – how to move games to another drive? I replaced my old HDD with a new SSD in the hope that I could enjoy shorter load times. I don’t want to redownload those games on the SSD anymore because my local network condition really sucks and it usually takes days to fully download one. So, I need a way to transfer the games from the HDD to the SSD.

Likewise, some people also wonder how to move a game to another drive because the install drive is full and it’s imperative to find a new home. So, in this post, we’ll discuss how to move installed games to another drive on Windows 10 in different ways.

How to move games to another drive in 3 ways?

After being a drifter on the internet for a while, trying to figure out some practical ways to get it done, I finally got 3 solutions and tested them on my own. Hopefully, they work for you too!

Method 1. Move games from Windows’ settings

For all games bought and downloaded from Microsoft Store, moving to another drive can never be easier. This can be done in Windows Settings.

  1. Go to Settings > Apps > Apps & Features
  2. Select the game you want to move.
  3. Hit the “Move” button and preset a destination
  4. Hit “Move” to start the transfer process.

Method 2. Move games with Steam inbuilt settings

Steam is a video game distribution platform owning the largest user base compared with its counterparts including Origin, Epic, and Uplay. Many players have Steam games installed on their computers and sometimes, they need to move their games to another drive for the same reasons mentioned above. However, this time, Windows Settings won’t help anymore. Luckily, there’s still another workaround.

  1. Run the Steam launcher and then, follow “Steam” > “Settings” > ”Downloads” > “STEAM LIBRARY FOLDERS”.
  2. Hit “ADD LIBRARY FOLDER”, select a target drive, hit “NEW FOLDER” and write a directory name.
  3. Go back to the main window, right-click on the game you want to move, and then, select “Properties”.
  4. Select the option “LOCAL FILES” and select “MOVE INSTALL FOLDER”.
  5. Hit “MOVE FOLDER” to begin game transfer.
  6. In a few seconds, the process will be completed. Hit “Close” to finish the process

Method 3. Move games with third-party software

If the game you installed is neither from Microsoft Store, nor Steam, then, maybe a third-party disk management utility meets your needs. Here, I recommend AOMEI Partition Assistant Professional, a user-friendly partition manager, with whose built-in app mover, you can easily transfer any video games from one drive to another within only a few clicks. In the process, you don’t need to worry about the transfer speed for it doesn’t need a network connection. Meanwhile, this software also supports disk clone if you want to move the entire data from one drive to another.
