Deutsche Telekom is bringing the GlasGo glass manufactory into the digital world. Sensors network the production and logistics of the manufacturer of special glass.

This means fewer machine failures. The company GlasGo from Rhineland-Palatinate refines several 10,000 glasses daily with special lacquers. With the Deutsche Telekom solution, GlasGo’s scrap is reduced by several hundred glasses per month.

Deutsche Telekom installed the necessary sensors and digital infrastructure in just 100 days. A command station processes all data from automated production. Hans-Jürgen Hirsch, Managing Director of the family-run company from Oberlahr: “We specifically chose a major partner, with a data center in Germany and data protection in accordance with European law”.

Sensors measure temperature

With the help of the Deutsche Telekom wCloud of Things, the glass manufacturer has switched part of its production to electronic control. In the past, employees used to monitor production manually at great expense. This is now done automated. The downtimes of the sensitive machines are reduced by around six hours per month.

The system records values from fans and burners. It compares this data with the stored target values. Deviations trigger an alarm. Thanks to networking, GlasGo now also has a better view of the paints and varnishes used. Since the lacquers react very strongly to temperature fluctuations, sensors log the entire wsupply chain. Energy consumption during production is also significantly reduced. This is because the system reports to idling in ovens or compressors for paint guns.
