Gionee has recently unveiled its latest flagship – the A1 smartphone in the Indian market.

In keeping with its legacy of going through the traditional channel oriented model – this phone is available with a large set of channel partners that the company has well spread across the length and breadth of India.

Gionee A1 is positioned as a selfie smartphone – and delivers quite well on that front. A1 comes with 16 megapixel front camera that also has a LED flash. This is just about ideal, to bring out the best selfie in you.

Design and build quality

A1 smartphone is quite well designed and while holding the phone, it gives you a special feeling of having a premium device. A1 comes with a brushed aluminium casing at the back with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 in the front. it comes with display having a 2.5D curved glass housing with curved edges and a power button and volume rockers on the right of the phone.

While reviewing the phone, we were quite an ease with this device. The front also houses the sensors and its unique selfie camera at the front. This is a great device under this price range of INR 19,999 and delivers a wonderful design that is just about good to appease users of different market segments and tastes.

Display

Gionee A1 has a 5.5-inch full HD IPS LCD display with a pixel density of 401 ppi that has a resolution of 1920×1080 pixels. While reviewing the phone we realized that the display is quite clear and bright with great viewing angles and a decent ambient light sensor as well.

All in all, we were quite satisfied with the display of this device and it delivers vivid colors on the screen – this is a perfect device for watching movies.

User interface and performance

Gionee A1 comes with a 2.0GHz Octa-Core MediaTek MT6755 Helio P10 processor clubbed with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage which can be expanded up to 256GB via microSD.

Gionee A1 runs on Android 7.0 Nougat with the Amigo OS 4.0 on top. We found the user interface of the smartphone to be quite lag-free, even while doing multi-tasking activities.

The device delivers multiple customization options which are available inside the UI – ranging from split-screen multi tasking to different native Android customisations. All this makes the user experience in this device – a very smooth and special affair.

Camera Performance

This device comes with a very special camera. While reviewing this smartphone – we went out to click pictures in quite pressing situations (opposite Sun / low-light conditions) and the camera in this phone just proved to be super-brilliant in delivering one flawless performance, after the other.

The front camera is a 16-megapixel unit with an LED flash. Both the front, as well as the back camera come equipped with a number of modes that users can choose from such as beautification, panorama view, and night mode etc.

This phone has a primary camera which is a 13-megapixel unit and a sensor size of 1/3” and has touch-focus, face detection, HDR. This can record videos at 1080p @ 30fps. The pictures in the daylight were decent enough to create a special impression.

Special Battery

When it comes to battery, Gionee A1 comes with capacity of 4010mAh which easily lasted us more than a day and a half, while we used it quite extensively. This is a very special battery and most certainly one amongst the best in the market today.

Final Verdict

Priced at INR 19,999, this is possibly the best Gionee smartphone and has great potential to further catapult Gionee towards greater profitability and marketshare.

It delivers premium looks and is quite sharp when it comes to delivering lag-free performance as well. Gionee A1 has great specifications under its hood and also comes with a huge battery to support it.
