Ericsson’s Middle East and Africa leadership team has concluded a visit to Madagascar, engaging with key partners, customers, country stakeholders, and industry leaders in the island nation.
The engagements focused on Madagascar’s Information and Communications Technology (ICT) landscape and delved into areas of collaboration to leverage Ericsson’s innovation to expand mobile broadband access, drive digital inclusion, and create unlimited opportunities for individuals, empower businesses, and transform communities.
The visit is in line with Ericsson’s #AfricaInMotion vision to harness the power of connectivity and technology to drive digitalization and support sustainable development and economic progress across the continent. According to the November 2023 edition of the Ericsson Mobility Report, mobile subscriptions in Sub-Saharan Africa are anticipated to experience a 3 percent annual growth, increasing from 940 million in 2023 to 1.1 billion in 2029. The report highlights 5G as the most rapidly expanding subscription type during this period.
Ericsson has been committed to contributing to this growth through the introduction of its innovative products in the region including Radio 6626, a unique three-sector dual-band radio. This radio helps communications service providers (CSPs) in the region increase their Frequency Division Duplex (FDD) 5G frequency capacity while lowering costs and reducing footprint - up to 50 percent lower energy consumption. Ericsson consistently enhances the networks in the region by employing the Ericsson Cognitive Software Portfolio and AI-driven technologies, assessing future network requirements through active monitoring and predictive forecasting.
Ericsson has a long-standing presence in Madagascar, having partnered with mobile operators to provide reliable and advanced network infrastructure for over two decades.
In 2023, Ericsson reinforced its collaboration with AXIAN Telecom during the Mobile World Congress. The focus of this partnership revolves around the modernization efforts aimed at enhancing AXIAN Telecom's operations in Madagascar. This includes the revitalization of Telma Madagascar's radio access network (RAN), microwave transport infrastructure, and core networks.
This visit further strengthens the company's commitment to supporting Madagascar's digital transformation ambitions and contributing to a more connected and prosperous future for all.
