Affordable 4G: Mukesh Ambani Unveils Reliance Jio to India

Unveiling what is perhaps the cheapest 4G data offering in the world – Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) chairman Mukesh Ambani utilised the company’s Annual General Meeting in Mumbai to finally launch the Reliance Jio service in India.

The much anticipated all IP based 4G VoLTE service will offer data tarrifs at never before price points and make voice calls completely free.


Announcing the Reliance Jio launch, Mukesh Ambani said that Reliance Jio tariff is designed keeping in mind the affordability factor for all Indians. Mukesh Ambani said that Reliance Jio won’t charge for voice calls, data prices will be what Ambani calls the “cheapest in the world” and there will be just 10 tariff plans to select from.

Delivering huge data benefits to the Indian users – Reliance Jio data packs will start for as low as 5 paise per MB adding up to Rs 50 for 1GB – this is a fraction of the cheapest data plan available in India as of now.

Catering to different data needs, Reliance Jio will offer data packs ranging from Small (S) to XXXL. The small plan starts at Rs 149 for 0.3GB data along with access to 100 SMSes.

The Large, XL, XXL and XXXL 4G packs are priced at INR 999, INR 1,499, INR 2,499, INR 3,999 and INR 4,999, respectively. Reliance Jio data packs give users an access to free voice calls.

Additionally, the Reliance Jio data packs give users an access to free voice calls and Jio premium apps. Jio Premium apps include JioPlay, JioOnDemand, JioBeats, JioMags, JioXpressNews, JioDrive, JioSecurity and JioMoney.

Jio Welcome Offer

As per the announcement, Reliance Jio data packs with access to Jio premium apps is free till December 31, 2017. Users will be charged as per these data packs after December 31. This is the Jio Welcome Offer – announced by Mukesh Ambani. The free services will start on September 5.

Ambani also announced that all voice calls for Jio customers will be free of cost. And additionally, there will be no roaming charges for customers for Jio customers.

On the international roaming front – he added that international roaming rates will also be cheaper than the rivals, though he did not announce the rates.
