Telesur Taps Squire Technologies for Ribbon SBC Replacement

Telesur, Suriname’s leading mobile operator, has selected Squire Technologies to provide a Ribbon SBC replacement. The replacement is part of a wide-reaching network transformation that will deliver new B2B VoIP retail service options.

Telesur is spearheading a tech revolution in Suriname. It is bringing fibre broadband, 4G LTE, and 5G to customers and businesses. The telecommunications provider is a perfect example of how operators are expanding into new industries and permeating the value chain.

Telesur’s digital platform transformation

Recently, Telesur has gone beyond infrastructure provision, introducing itself as a digital platform. The operator has taken steps to deliver fintech, cloud computing and data services, and it is now enhancing its B2B/residential offer with the latest VoIP services.

The network’s evolution requires a Ribbon SBC replacement to enable full SIP routing and interconnect, consolidating analogue and digital VoIP solutions.

Squire Technologies is deploying its Voice Platform, Vozi. Vozi combines the functionality of its SBC, SSR (SIP Session Router) and a C5 Softswitch for the replacement. Complimenting the platform’s robustness is its unique SSR functionality with an inbuilt MGC to control third-party Gateways over MGCP.

The MGC will facilitate the migration of analogue customers to SIP, and the C5 Softswitch will enable new B2B VoIP service offers. The combined SBC SIP interconnects and C5 VoIP services enable Telesur to sell its own VoIP retail services, opening new revenue streams.

Suriname is benefiting from Telesur’s network enhancements
In previous years, Suriname’s economy has experienced considerable volatility. The nation’s primary exports, oil and gold, have left it vulnerable to global price fluctuations. However, investment in digital infrastructure is enabling the country’s economy to diversify into other areas.

Telesur is providing the resources that are transforming healthcare, education, employment and sustainability initiatives. The company is a leader in sustainable connectivity, utilising 75 solar-powered sites to extend connectivity into remote areas.

Network enhancements mean the Surinamese can access financial services from hard-to-reach places, shrinking Suriname’s digital divide. The development delivers economic opportunities as Suriname is on the verge of becoming the world’s fastest-growing economy.

Why might an operator need a Ribbon SBC replacement?

As threats to network security evolve, SBCs need to be updated. Additionally, older SBCs might not have the capacity to handle increasing traffic or OCS billing platform integrations. When this occurs, it’s necessary to seek an SBC replacement.

Furthermore, telecom operators can often find themselves at the mercy of large solutions providers. When large state operators need to make rapid rollouts to millions of subscribers, it can be tempting to utilise large solutions providers.

Unfortunately, the more integrated an operator network is with a large solutions provider, the more at risk they become. Providers can radically increase renewal prices or charge high rates for upgrades and extensions.

Smaller state operators have more leverage in these scenarios. Having smaller networks and fewer subscribers means that, unless it’s a full, single-provider network, they can replace components whenever necessary.

“Telesur strives to deliver the best services for businesses and subscribers. In recent years, our efforts to extend coverage to hard-to-reach areas have boosted digital inclusion. This project continues our commitment to ensuring our customers get the most from their connection.

“Our experience working with Squire Technologies has always been first-rate, which is why we selected them for this critical SBC replacement and complex subscriber migration. We know we can trust in their expertise, and professionalism, and the quality of their solutions. Their products offer the flexibility and security that customers expect from our network,” said, Doric Ramlakhan, CEO at Telesur.

“Telesur is leading the way for small state operators, extending sustainable coverage and high-speed network features to the citizens of Suriname. By combining extended coverage and speed with new VoIP services, they are unleashing the nation’s economic future.

“They are a fantastic team to work with, and we are grateful to be part of their ongoing success and growth,” commented, Bradley Knight, Chief Operating Officer at Squire Technologies.
