Spotlight on Consumer Electronics | TelecomDrive.com
The consumer electronics sector in India is about to enter a pivotal stage. Affordability, foreign technology, and production scale were the main topics of discussion for many years. A bigger potential is now present: creating goods that are not only produced in India but also carefully crafted to meet the demands of contemporary Indian customers.
The future of India’s electronics sector will rely on how well producers integrate innovation, accessibility, and customer awareness as lifestyles change and technology becomes more ingrained in daily life.
Manufacturing Growth to Design-Led Innovation
India has made remarkable progress in strengthening its electronics manufacturing ecosystem. According to KPMG India’s June 2026 report, India’s Electronic Manufacturing Services Opportunity, the country’s electronics manufacturing services market expanded from approximately US$10–12 billion in FY2020 to US$40–45 billion in FY2025.

However, KPMG also highlights an important challenge: much of India’s manufacturing activity remains concentrated in lower-value assembly, while design-led manufacturing and advanced engineering capabilities are still developing.
Investments in product design, research, engineering, and component development must increasingly be made in addition to manufacturing scale for Indian businesses. Instead of just assembling technology, the goal should be to develop it in India.
Lifestyles Redefining Product Expectations
Today’s consumers are looking for more than impressive specifications. Young professionals are navigating busy schedules, students are living independently, families are adapting to compact urban homes and frequent travellers are seeking convenience beyond traditional household settings. These lifestyle changes are creating opportunities for portable, multifunctional and space-efficient electronics. A blender can serve both individual and family needs. A compact kettle can make everyday cooking easier in smaller living spaces. A multifunctional cleaning device can replace several single-purpose accessories.
The underlying expectation is simple: technology should make everyday life easier.
For manufacturers, understanding these changing routines is becoming just as important as developing new features.
New Consumer Economy Demands Innovation
The changing consumer landscape reinforces this shift. According to the Deloitte India–FICCI report, Consumer Trends IGNITEing Growth and Governance, released in August 2026, India’s consumer economy is increasingly influenced by convenience, personalisation, digital adoption and evolving purchasing behaviour. The report also projects that India’s e-commerce market could reach nearly US$260 billion by 2030. For consumer electronics brands, this creates opportunities alongside greater competition.
Consumers can discover products, compare alternatives and evaluate functionality across multiple channels. As a result, brands must communicate genuine product value rather than rely solely on pricing or promotional campaigns. Innovation must therefore extend beyond the product itself to include design, demonstrations, customer experience and after-sales confidence.
Building Indian Brands With Global Ambitions
India’s consumer market is diverse, requiring products that balance functionality, affordability, and reliability. Effective innovations should address simple, everyday challenges rather than merely adding features. Affordable technology aims to make useful products accessible to a broader audience. India’s manufacturing growth presents opportunities for products that resonate globally, but success relies on consistent quality and design investment.
The future of Indian consumer electronics hinges on delivering real value through innovation, beyond mere production. “Made in India” should signify a commitment to understanding consumer needs and enhancing daily life.
