In total, Ziggo is providing almost 110,000 Dutch households and companies with gigabit speeds and improved network stability with this newest connection.

In the technology region Brainport Eindhoven, one of the mainports in the Netherlands, many leading companies and disruptive startups are working hard on the newest developments in the fields of computers, medical equipment and technological solutions for global problems. Super-fast download times, improved stability and even less delays are driving these innovations forward.

Ready for the future

"The rollout of super-fast internet in the Netherlands is entirely in line with VodafoneZiggo's ambition to prepare the Netherlands for the digital future," said Jeroen Hoencamp, CEO of VodafoneZiggo: “Under the name GigaNet, the powerful network of Vodafone and Ziggo, we annually invest hundreds of millions in a stable, innovative and secure network. 'Gigabit without digging' is a key part of this. Thanks to all these investments to make our network 1 gigabit suitable, it’s not only customers who opt for the highest internet speed that benefit. All connected customers also automatically benefit from a faster and more stable network connection without having to do anything."

In the past year, the cable network in Eindhoven was technically prepared for gigabit internet. Ziggo technicians installed more than 165,366 new connectors at home connections and replaced more than 15,435 connection cables in more than 8,819 street cabinets. A total of more than 16 kilometres of new network cabling in street cabinets and local exchanges. As a result of all these innovations, Ziggo will switch on entire cities or regions at once, instead of high-speed internet being available on a street or neighbourhood basis.

97% signal via glass fibre

The fixed network of Ziggo is a typical hybrid network that consists of glass fibre and coax. An average of 97% of the route taken by the internet signal from the data centre to a house connection runs through the Ziggo network via glass fibre.

Only the last part, from the neighbourhood to the living room, goes via coaxial cable. Ziggo applies DOCSIS 3.1 technology to this coaxial part, which also allows fast internet speeds with a download speed of up to 1 Gbps. This technology ensures that speeds of up to 10 gigabits per second will become possible within a few years. Upload speeds will also increase over time.
