Truecaller has unveiled Truemessenger, a new way of experiencing SMS on your Android phone, to change the way we communicate. Truemessenger makes SMS safer and adds context to your conversations, by allowing you to put a name to a number on your SMS messages and automatically filter out spam.

Launching exclusively today in India, Truemessenger is designed as an SMS replacement app, with an automated spam filter powered by 150 Million Truecaller community members worldwide. With the increasing amount of SMS spam, and unknown messages sent to private mobile phone numbers, Truemessenger puts you in control of who you communicate with and keeps your inbox clean and free from unwanted messages.

SMS messaging accounts for the majority of all messages sent globally, and represents about 8 trillion messages annually. The popularity of SMS, and that it is an open network of communication, similar to email, has led to an increase of commercial and marketing related messaging. These spam SMS account for 15% of all SMS messages sent globally, and represents 1.2 trillion spam messages each year. This is where Truemessenger becomes a necessity in today’s communication arena. With the increasingly global problem of spam and unknown numbers accumulating in our SMS inboxes, Truemessenger leads the way to an organized inbox where you can always put a name to a number, block and filter spam SMS messages seamlessly.

“Today’s messaging apps are under constant attack from spammers and surrounded by uncertainty, but when we communicate via email for instance, our email app shows you the sender’s name and filters out spam messages for you, but SMS has lacked these essential components – until today,” said Alan Mamedi, CEO & co-founder of Truecaller. “With Truemessenger we’ve reimagined the SMS app experience by making it more social and putting control back into the users’ hands so they always know who they are communicating with.”

OTT messaging is growing in popularity, but SMS remains a leader in the mobile messaging field, especially in the USA, where the SMS app remains the most used app in the country as outlined by the 2015 Ericsson Mobility Report. Today, Truemessenger is designed as a replacement to the standard SMS app, since this is where the need for an innovative global solution is most prevalent. Looking at other OTT applications that have a limited network size due to their closed network of communication, these platforms do not allow for cross communication between networks. However, with Truemessenger, the community of users will be able to communicate effortlessly with anyone who has a mobile phone while keeping their inbox free from unknown numbers and spam.

“We know that spam calls and SMS are a major source of frustration for our users globally, and our users in India have been especially vocal in asking for a solution to this problem. Today, we begin our launch in India and are really excited to be able to offer Truemessenger into the Indian market to protect our users from spam, and help to streamline their communications. We look forward to subsequent launches globally in the near future,“ Mamedi continued.
