TIM is set to launch the first Smart Spaces Hackathon in collaboration with Google Cloud and Codemotion, running from 2-5 July. The Hackathon is a true innovation marathon, involving the entire country’s innovation ecosystem, from startuppers to software developers, digital designers, marketing experts and more.

Hundreds of people are expected to take part in the event, which aims to design new and intelligent spaces featuring innovative services that can improve the places where we live, with a special focus on the new scenarios deriving from the Covid-19 emergency.

During the Hackathon, participants will be invited to put themselves to the test by designing new solutions for the home, the office and outdoors, using the latest functionalities offered by Artificial Intelligence, Robotics and the Internet of Things.

Everything will be driven by the TIM Digital Business Platform, offering a range of software with easy access for developers and “ready-to-use” functions thanks to Application Programming Interfaces, and the Google Cloud platform of cloud-based computing services.

The programme is divided into five areas in which participants will be asked to design and implement their innovations: Home, for the environments we live in; Office, for the spaces we work in; Public Spaces, for common spaces, cultural sites and tourist attractions; Retail, for companies’ production, delivery and sales processes; and Care Residence, for exploring the value of technology when caring for vulnerable people.

The initiative is part of the activities of TIM WCAP, the Group’s open innovation programme for start-ups and SMEs. Created in 2009, the programme is now increasingly focused on fostering business initiatives that can enrich TIM’s digital service offering.

In the following weeks, a jury made up of professionals from TIM and Google Cloud will decide the five winning teams, which will receive a prize of 5,000 euros each at the award ceremony on 23 July. The winners will also be able to go into partnership with TIM to develop their projects.

Particular attention will be given to projects that concentrate on sustainability and inclusion, the founding elements of TIM and Google Cloud’s vision of innovation, the cornerstone of the recent technological partnership agreement signed by the two groups. As such, projects that stand out in this area will earn a special mention.
