Teltronic, a Spanish company Backed by over 45 years of experience in the critical communications sector, will extend the Canary Islands Emergency and Security Network (Red de Emergencias y Seguridad de Canarias, RESCAN) which it deployed in 2010 and which provides voice and data TETRA communications services throughout the archipelago.
The aim is to improve coverage on some of the most remote stretches of road on the island, including various tunnels, as well as other areas with difficult terrain.
To this end, 9 new outdoor base stations will be deployed and new carriers will be added to the indoor base stations which will increase the network’s traffic capacity.
Since it was set up, the Canary Islands Emergency and Security Network has provided critical radio communications services to various public safety agencies, such as the regional and local police, and to emergency services such as the fire brigades and Civil Protection, among others.
It currently meets the communication needs of more than 8,000 users belonging to 130 different organisations, with a network infrastructure deployed on all the islands of the Canary archipelago, with more than a hundred base stations offering coverage of more than 95% of the territory, and which are managed from two Switching Control Nodes (main and redundant) located in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and Santa Cruz de Tenerife.
The system has operated successfully over all these years and was even one of the entities that received recognition from the Canary Islands Parliament for the important role it played during the extinction of the terrible fires that affected the island of Gran Canaria in 2019, when, despite the virulence of the fire, the network remained available for 100% of the time.
“RESCAN is an example to follow and the paradigm of the value that a critical communications network brings to an Autonomous Community; and for Teltronic it is a real pleasure to be part, together with our local partner, Técnicas Competitivas, S.A., of a project that has contributed to improving security and emergency management on the islands, and we are very proud that the Canary Islands Government’s Directorate General for Telecommunications and New Technologies has maintained its confidence in us,” explained the company’s Commercial Director for Spain and Portugal, Miguel Aladrén.
