On the first ever celebration of the 79th Indonesian Independence Day at Ibu Kota Nusantara (IKN), Telkomsel and Ericsson collaborated to broadcast the celebration nationwide using a dedicated network slice leveraging advanced 5G Standalone (SA) technology.
This is a bold opportunity to demonstrate the potential of 5G SA and network slicing technologies to deliver a high-performing, ultra-reliable experience to the Indonesian people. End-to-end network slicing on the 5G Standalone network enables the broadcaster to deliver services faster with high security and guaranteed quality of service to meet the broadcast requirements. By leveraging Network Slicing technologies, Telkomsel can efficiently use and manage the network resources and provide differentiated services at scale.
5G SA capabilities combined with network exposure, automation, edge computing and network slicing are raising the stakes for 5G service delivery – making networks more programmable, breaking out traffic at the network edge, and providing differentiated connectivity with guaranteed quality of service. Telkomsel is also supporting the implementation of Smart City at IKN powered by Ericsson’s 5G RAN and Dual-Mode 5G Core technologies.
Director of Spectrum Policy and Planning, Directorate General of Resources and Standard Kemkominfo RI, Denny Setiawan remarked, “The collaboration between Telkomsel as the operator and Ericsson as the vendor in the 5G Standalone (5G SA) technology trial in the new capital city (IKN) is a strategic step that aligns with Kemkominfo’s commitment to accelerating digital transformation across various industrial sectors in Indonesia. Kemkominfo hopes that this initiative will support the government’s vision of expediting the development of digital infrastructure, thereby solidifying Indonesia’s position as a leading digital economy. Through the trial of 5G SA technology on the 700 MHz and 26 GHz frequency bands, we are optimistic that this technology will enhance mobile broadband service quality and facilitate the development of smart city use cases, laying a strong foundation for the advancement of Indonesia’s digital ecosystem.”
Telkomsel’s Director of Network, Indra Mardiatna stated, “As Indonesia’s leading digital telecommunication service provider, Telkomsel remains steadfast in its commitment to providing top-notch communication services to the Indonesian people. The ongoing collaboration with infrastructure and technology partners Ericsson and Qualcomm is a crucial step towards expanding 5G technologies at the Nusantara Capital City (IKN). This partnership plays a vital role in Telkomsel’s 5G implementation, particularly in achieving 5G Standalone (SA) capabilities, which will not only offer innovative digital services to consumers but also support the deployment of Smart City applications at IKN. These efforts are aligned with Telkomsel’s vision and mission to empower the nation by advancing technology, driving innovation, and supporting the government’s initiative to accelerate the country’s digital transformation.”
Head of Ericsson Indonesia, Krishna Patil said, “Telkomsel and Ericsson have a longstanding and valued partnership. We are pleased to be able to demonstrate the latest 5G technologies at IKN together with Telkomsel and Qualcomm, along with our advanced network slicing and Dual-Mode 5G Core capabilities. This is part of Ericsson’s commitment to supporting Telkomsel on its 5G evolution journey. Through this collaboration, we aim to support digitalization initiatives in Indonesia and accelerate the country to realize its Golden Indonesia 2045 vision.”
Country Director of Qualcomm Indonesia, Shannedy Ong said, “Qualcomm is proud to partner with Telkomsel in advancing 5G Stand Alone technology for IKN. Through our joint efforts, we are delivering ultra-capacity, lower latency capabilities, and high-speed internet with Qualcomm SDX65 Modem. Additionally, we are extending our technology to smartphones and smart glasses through our Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 Mobile Platform and Snapdragon AR1 Gen1 and for 5G mobility use cases. We remain committed to supporting Indonesia’s digital transformation.”
Telkomsel and Ericsson are also showcasing 5G use cases at Rumah Teknologi Nusantara (RTN) including Smart Cities and Smart Government applications as well as the Company’s latest technology and solutions.
