Telia Company has entered into a partnership with Swedish-based Solidtango AB and aim to bring a new type of local and user-generated sports content to Telia TV customers in the Nordics and Baltics.
The partnership will give Telia exclusive access to content in Solidsport, the streaming platform owned by Solidtango. The platform makes it possible for teams, leagues and clubs to broadcast and monetize their own sport events through the internet to customers. This adds a new dimension of sports for TV customers who will get a broader, more local and personal sports offering to share with friends and family via Telia TV.
“We always want to be close to our customers and offer relevant content that excites and engages people, such as sport. Our partnership with Solidtango will definitely bring something new to our sports-loving TV customers. In the bigger picture, this also connects to things we care for in society like digitalization for good, health and youth,” says Johanna Berlinde, Head of Global TV& Media, Telia Company.
According to Johan Lundqvist, CEO Solidtango, live-streamed sport is extremely popular, whether it is individual games, competitions, tournaments or events. Sports attract a substantial amount of viewers on all levels and in all age groups.
“Telia is a perfect partner for us and together we will be able to create the best possible conditions for everybody who want to broadcast, distribute and consume sports at a level that hasn’t been possible before,” says Lundqvist.
Sports streaming to increase
TV and Media is a strategic growth area in Telia and the company expects that streaming of sports will increase rapidly in the coming years. Telia is the largest TV operator in the Nordics & Baltics with around 2 million subscriptions.
“The partnership is part of our strategy to secure content that our customers love and to find new ways to strengthen our TV offering to keep our strong position. Solidtango is innovative, exciting and was recently given a Gasell award as one of the fastest growing companies in Sweden. I look forward to bringing our customer this new type of sport content next year,” Berlinde says.
To further fuel the growth of Solidtango and strengthen the partnership, Telia has made a minority investment in the company.
