4G chipmaker Sequans Communications and Ecrio Inc., provider of 4G LTE real time communications client solutions for the mobile industry, have developed a joint solution integrating Ecrio’s operator-certified FlexIMS Voice over LTE (VoLTE) and SMS over IMS client software with Sequans’ LTE chipset platforms.
As part of an ongoing product development activity with a key device OEM, the Sequans/Ecrio VoLTE implementation has been successfully demonstrated on a customer platform, proving its interoperability and performance capabilities in a real-world device.
The turnkey solution provides everything needed to support VoLTE on LTE phones, tablets, CPEs, gateways, M2M/IoT devices, and more, and allows ODMs and OEMs to shorten time to market. Ecrio’s FlexIMS patented technology allows for the broadest coverage of IMS/VoLTE device types including mobile and LTE home/enterprise CPE with full support of regulatory capabilities.
“VoLTE is a key capability for the single-mode LTE market and it is for more than just phones,” said Georges Karam, Sequans CEO. “Increasingly, it is being recognized by both operators and device makers as necessary in non-phone devices, including home gateways and tablets and a wide range of M2M and IoT devices. Our entire chipset portfolio is designed to support VoLTE for precisely this reason, and the Ecrio/Sequans solution works on all of Sequans LTE platforms, including Colibri and Calliope for IoT/M2M applications and Cassiopeia for LTE-Advanced applications.”
The joint Ecrio/Sequans solution fully meets the OEM and operator requirements of any VoLTE- enabled product¾phone, tablet, LTE home/enterprise CPEs, M2M, IoT¾with full legacy support of mandatory FAX/Modem and regulatory E911 and TTY capabilities. It is optimized for high performance, low power consumption, and long battery life, leveraging Sequans’ highly optimized on-chip CODECs for HD voice.
“We are proud of the potential span of VoLTE-enablement of devices with our FlexIMS technology and happy to join Sequans in announcing this significant milestone,” said Michel Gannage, Ecrio’s CEO. “Ecrio is fully committed to supporting Sequans in OEM and ODM product integrations and forging ahead with advanced services deployments.”
“Our long-term collaboration with Ecrio, which has involved work on several product types over the course of many months, has yielded a best-in-class solution for the design of any VoLTE-enabled device,” said Karam.
