In response to growing national security threats, SEMPRE has partnered with Israeli defense innovator R2 Wireless to deliver real-time drone detection and counter-unmanned aircraft system (C-UAS) capabilities over a private, stand-alone 5G network. The combined solution significantly enhances force protection and marks a breakthrough in battlefield survivability.
In today’s asymmetric warfare environment, where sensors are the new weapons and energy is the new gunpowder, owning the electromagnetic spectrum means owning the battlefield. As adversaries deploy increasingly sophisticated unmanned systems and electronic warfare tactics, this partnership gives U.S. and allied forces a decisive edge.
The collaboration integrates R2’s cutting-edge signal detection, classification, geolocation, and tracking technology with SEMPRE’s hardened communications backbone. The result: real-time threat detection and response delivered over a secure, ultra-resilient 5G network that performs even in contested or disconnected environments.
Onn Fenig, CEO of R2 Wireless, said: “Our collaboration with SEMPRE is pushing the boundaries of innovation, enabling full-spectrum defense against a new generation of wireless threats, critical for maneuvering forces in the modern battlespace. This marks the first time mission-critical electronic warfare capabilities have been deployed over a resilient communications infrastructure, empowering military forces to detect, classify, and geolocate unmanned airborne threats—regardless of protocol, frequency, or modulation—anytime, anywhere.”
SEMPRE, R2 Wireless Partner to Detect and Stop Drone Threats
The announcement follows multiple successful integrations, live demonstrations, and evaluations with the U.S. Department of Defense.
Rob Spalding, Brigadier General (USAF ret.) and CEO of SEMPRE, added: “This partnership reflects our unwavering commitment to protect critical operations with technology that doesn’t break under pressure. We rigorously vet every partner to ensure their solutions meet our high standards for security, reliability and interoperability. With R2, we’re delivering a layered C-UAS capability powered by the most resilient 5G infrastructure on the planet.”
This collaboration comes at a pivotal moment, as national conversations around the Golden Dome defense initiative underscore the urgent need to integrate advanced technologies that can defend against both physical and digital threats, from cyberattacks to coordinated drone swarms.
For the first time, military units operating in no-fail environments will have tactical-level, real-time spectrum visibility, enabled by R2’s ODIN platform and SEMPRE’s secure 5G infrastructure. This system pairs passive, software-defined RF sensing with mission-critical communications, allowing forces to detect, track, and respond to threats across any frequency or protocol, in any environment.
