SaskTel has recently begun rolling out its 5G network in Estevan, Weyburn and Yorkton. Delivering hyper-fast data speeds, SaskTel’s 5G network is bringing a new level of connectivity to residents and businesses across Saskatchewan.

Available today in parts of Estevan, Weyburn, and Yorkton, SaskTel anticipates the majority of all three cities will have 5G coverage by the end of March 2024.

“Our government is pleased with the work SaskTel is doing to rapidly expand its 5G network across the province,” said Don Morgan, Minister Responsible for SaskTel. “With this latest expansion, thousands of our residents and businesses can now begin to take advantage and benefit from one of the most advanced wireless networks available anywhere in the country.”

“This is exciting news for both our residents and business community in Yorkton,” Mitch Hippsley, Mayor of Yorkton. “Growth requires faster connectivity to our daily lives and businesses. Information & communication is the ‘key’ to prosperity & we look forward to having this delivered to our city.”

Currently, SaskTel’s 5G network can deliver data speeds of up to 1.2 Gigabits per second (Gbps), and as it matures the network will provide significantly faster speeds. Other future benefits of 5G will include massive network capacity and ultra-low latency, all of which will enable new use cases for emerging wireless technologies that will be the foundation that next-generation innovations will be built upon.

“As we lean into a more connected future, SaskTel’s 5G network will provide our customers with extremely fast data speeds, and real-time connectivity that will make day to day activities easier while also helping to unlock the potential of innovative smart technologies,” said Doug Burnett, SaskTel President and CEO.

The continued expansion of its 5G and fibre networks are a direct result of the record setting investments SaskTel is planning to make in 2023/24 and their commitment to invest more than $1.6 billion of capital across Saskatchewan over the next five years. These investments will help Saskatchewan accelerate its transition to becoming a smart province and ensure it remains one of the most well-connected regions in the country.

In order to connect to its 5G network, SaskTel customers need to be within a 5G coverage area, have a 5G capable device that is certified for use on the SaskTel 5G network, and subscribe to a 5G compatible wireless plan.
