NTT DATA, a global digital business and IT services leader, and Mavenir Systems, Inc. will collaborate globally to provide products, solutions, systems and integration services for 5G networks based on cloud native, open architecture-based systems, including Open RAN to drive openness and virtualization in 5G networks.

Through this collaboration, the two companies will combine various IT and telecommunication services, including integration services provided by NTT DATA worldwide, with Mavenir’s Open Virtualized RAN (vRAN) solutions and Converged Packet Core to support the adoption of Open vRAN by telecommunications carriers and the realization of Digital Transformation by enterprises and telecom operators using 5G.

NTT DATA and Mavenir will provide network services with the added value that open and virtualized 5G networks can bring. In particular, the two companies will prioritize and work closely together on pioneering projects to drive open architecture-based approaches in enabling bigger and broader ecosystems to unlock the true potential of 5G networks.

NTT DATA has been providing various IT-related services to customers in a wide range of industries, from consulting based on IT strategy know-how to full-line system integration, including system design, development, operation and maintenance, and their managed services.

In particular, NTT DATA, as a company with its roots in NTT, has been providing services to global telecom operators that leverage its telecom DNA. And as an open system integrator, NTT DATA has been providing optimal IT services to its customers while avoiding vendor lock-in. In recent years, NTT DATA has been providing consulting services for cutting-edge IT strategies, including the use of cloud computing technologies.

Mavenir, is an end-to-end cloud-native network software provider that has been providing advanced solutions for many years to a large number of telecom operators globally. Mavenir’s Open vRAN encompasses 4G and 5G radio access.

The disaggregated RAN approach extends virtualization to the edge of the network and provides strategic differentiation by enabling multisource Remote Radio Units (RRUs) to interwork with the virtualized, containerized, Cloud Based Base Band software over ethernet Fronthaul (FH), using the O-RAN open interface overcoming the traditional constraints of the proprietary specifications, making the radio access network highly scalable and flexible.

The Mavenir Converged Packet Core solution uses cloud-native architecture with granular micro-services, following web-scale principles which provide the required scalability, agility, and reliability to meet the wide range of 5G use cases and stringent 5G performance requirements for end-to-end latency, high throughput demand, and overall network availability.

To date, NTT DATA and Mavenir have realized one of the first cloud-native 5G standalone (SA) campus networks at “Ensō – The Space for Creators” in Germany. NTT DOCOMO’s Open RAN Ecosystem has also selected NTT DATA as a system integrator and Mavenir as a RAN software provider and is working to realize Open vRAN in telecom operators. Through these efforts, the two companies have enhanced the feasibility of their collaboration.

Partnership

NTT DATA’s global delivery and Mavenir’s solutions will be combined to meet the needs of operators around the world as they build or transition to open and virtualized 5G networks. NTT DATA and Mavenir will globally collaborate to provide products, solutions, systems and integration services for 5G networks based on cloud native, open architecture-based systems, including Open RAN.

This strategic partnership is being driven in an effort to promote the adoption of Open RAN by telecom operators and the realization of Digital Transformation by enterprise operators using 5G. Through the construction of such a network, NTT DATA and Mavenir will also contribute to the digitization of regions such as rural areas, which have not benefited from high-speed wireless communications to date.
