NBN Co, supported by Ericsson, has earned an Australia-first validation from TM Forum of Level 4 Autonomy in Service Assurance (Single service), recognizing its advanced capabilities in AI-driven network automation.
The validated solution uses an AI agent to translate high-level service intents into executable task orders, perform real-time monitoring and AI-based degradation prediction, analyzes service impact, isolates root cause across network domains, and generates, evaluates and executes mitigation actions – including automated fallback and rollback – without human intervention in the standard operational flow.

In TM Forum’s Autonomous Network Level Assessment Validation (ANLAV) program, all eight capability areas were confirmed at the highest option (A), resulting in a validated Autonomous Network Level of 4.0 for this service-assurance scenario. A key application of the throughput management system is the management of atmospheric ducting and other interference conditions that can affect throughput on the Fixed Wireless network, especially across Australia’s vast regional footprint. By autonomously identifying these events in real time and taking corrective action to preserve network quality, the solution delivers a materially improved experience for customers in the areas that need it most.
The Level 4 validated solution means the nbn network can now proactively manage these conditions autonomously, reducing the frequency and duration of weather-related performance impacts for the 800,000 homes and businesses covered by nbn’s Fixed Wireless service.
nbn Chief Technology Officer Guy Scott, says: “This solution moves nbn’s Fixed Wireless network to a future where autonomous, intelligent network capability can detect, decide, and act in real time. For regional Australia, where our infrastructure can be more exposed to unique and challenging environmental conditions, this helps us better maintain performance, support faster recovery, and help deliver a more reliable experience for customers.
We’re proud and excited to be the first in Australia to achieve TM Forum Level 4 certification for this capability, and to show how AI, data and automation can be applied in a practical way to improve real network outcomes for communities across the country.”
Ludvig Landgren, Head of Ericsson Australia and New Zealand, says: “Achieving Level 4 autonomy in Service Assurance for managing a real-world environmental challenge like atmospheric ducting shows that autonomous networks are not a future concept — they are delivering tangible value for customers today.
Ericsson is proud of the role we play in supporting NBN Co in its mission to connect Australia and bridge the digital divide. This achievement reflects the depth of our partnership and our shared commitment to ensuring all Australians, regardless of where they live, have access to reliable, high-performing connectivity. “
