Ericsson and MTN have completed the expansion and modernization of MTN’s network in Kigali, Rwanda to extend network coverage, enhance user experience in the country and prepare the network for the introduction of 5G.
With the expansion and modernization, communities in the country will benefit from boosted connectivity and digitization, better access to education and healthcare, and more while also supporting climate action and energy efficiency. These benefits will foster stronger social connections, stimulate economic development, and empower communities, ultimately contributing to Rwanda's social economic, and environmental progress.

As part of this network modernization and expansion project, MTN Rwanda has introduced energy-efficient multi-band and multi-sector radios from Ericsson Radio System portfolio. These radios are contributing to an optimization in site footprint, reduction in energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions. By leveraging Ericsson’s latest and most advanced sustainable technologies and network optimization solutions, MTN Rwanda is demonstrating decisive action to address global climate imperatives in line with MTN’s Road to Zero ambition.
