MRV’s two new chassis are positioned to empower smaller data centers, carriers and cloud providers with the right mix of capacity and intelligence, making it easier to deploy and manage advanced optical services
MRV Communications, Inc., a provider of packet and optical solutions, has expanded the intelligent OptiDriver optical transport portfolio by unveiling new 12 and 16 slot chassis. The new OptiDriver chassis are optimized for smaller data center interconnects, Tier 3 service providers, cable operators, enterprises and others who have limited space for network equipment and may not need the full capacity provided by the OptiDriver 48 slot chassis.
The new OptiDriver solutions address the unique needs of smaller 10G and 100G networking environments with the right balance of bandwidth and integrated management features to streamline the delivery of advanced services like cloud connectivity and content delivery. Support for these services allows smaller network operators to expand their service portfolios and increase their competitiveness in the marketplace.
The smaller OptiDriver chassis feature the advanced capabilities offered by all solutions within the OptiDriver portfolio. Customers can now eliminate unused capacity and space while accessing a feature-rich optical transport platform that offers the industry’s most compact 10G transport and the lowest power consumption per 10G/100G service.
The OptiDriver 16 slot chassis supports a single row of single-height cards optimized for high-density 10G applications in remote locations. The OptiDriver™ 12 slot chassis features a patent-pending design that holds three rows of flexible dual-height cards capable of supporting emerging technologies like 100G and ROADM. Additionally, the OptiDriver 12 slot chassis may be utilized for redundant management hardware in locations that require enhanced management reliability.
The entire OptiDriver portfolio is integrated with MRV’s Pro-Vision service delivery platform. Built-in processing for current and emerging intelligent control plane technologies like GMPLS and Software-Defined Networking (SDN) enables quick integration into new and existing networks.
“The OptiDriver™ 12 and 16 slot chassis complement our 48 slot chassis, while untying the traditional link between capacity and features. MRV continues to evolve its innovative solutions portfolio, and the new chassis enable us to offer optimized solutions and configurations to closely match the unique needs of network operators, regardless of size, location or environment,” said John Golub, vice president of global product line management for MRV Communications. “High-density, power-efficient optical transport solutions are no longer reserved for the largest operators; small and mid-sized users can now streamline support for new bandwidth-rich, revenue-generating services, too.”
