Moto G 3rd Gen is a true next generation smartphone that comes packed with a great full-day powering battery, a highly responsive 13-megapixel camera and IPX7 waterproofing – all these features make this a super buy.
Motorola’s latest Moto G is the Best Moto Ever!
Everything about this smartphone comes in a special package – from its sharp 5-inch HD display to the way its screen-touch behaves. It is all about keeping it simply and yet effective. This is surely considered to be a budget phone, but quite smartly delivers on features on camera, waterproofing and design in an elegant manner.
Keeping up to the legacy of the original Moto G, the third generation Moto G provides much of what the original Motorola smartphone did right. But this one has truly optimized the hardware to match the expectations of the customers.
So, Motorola has pushed improved features, build quality and battery life, but in doing so it pushed the price to the very edge of the budget market.
Simple, Yet Effective Design
The Moto G has Motorola’s new curved design which is quite easy to hold and comes with a removable back. We can clearly see that this smartphone’s design has been refined to match current user expectations and takes after Motorola’s Moto X design.
The design of this smartphone has got ‘effective simplicity’ written all over it. The glass screen of this smartphone is surrounded by metal-like plastic. When we take a look at its back, it has a removable ribbed, curved plastic back and a silver metal bar that encapsulates the camera. So when it comes on the design front, it carries a simple design element that’s easy to hold and won’t slip out of the hand.
And yes, this smartphone comes with an effective waterproofing to IPX7 standards – this means that the smartphone can withstand water well into 1m deep water for 30 minutes.
The removable back of this smartphone elegantly hides the micro SIM and microSD card slot. It comes power packed with an upgraded 1.4GHz quad-core Snapdragon 410 and a choice of 1GB or 2GB of RAM depending on the storage variant that a user buys.
When we tested it continuously for 20 days – the Moto G quite consistently lasted one full day of use up at 9am in the morning with around 20% of battery left by 11pm in the night in an average testing day.
Android Version
The Moto G smartphone runs standard Android 5.1.1 Lollipop and delivers a superior performance when compared with other smartphones in the similar category.
The smartphone also comes with ‘Moto Actions’ – an application which allow users to set up automated tasks such as silencing their phone when they get home or while in office meetings, or motion controlled gestures such as a karate chop, which can turn on the flash light for a torch. We tested these features and all are quite well optimized for enhanced user experience.
Improved Camera
Quite evidently, the latest Moto G comes with a much improved camera than its predecessor. The 13-megapixel camera of this smartphone delivers great image quality with good detail, colour and what’s more is that – this camera delivers good quality images even in low-light situations.
On the other hand, the five-megapixel selfie camera is quite good on performance as well, producing decent photos for viewing on the phone. However, we did find the selfie pictures quite lackluster when viewed on a laptop.
Making the camera handling – all the more interesting – the simple Motorola camera app can be rapidly activated by a twisting gesture even when the phone is locked. And holding down the screen activates burst fire.

The Final Verdict
The third generation Moto G is the best Moto yet and comes with an elegant design. Manufacturers of this smartphone have used materials, keeping in mind, effective simplicity – which makes it quite unique in its league.
As a result, its build quality is excellent, the screen decent, the phone’s performance quite solid, and the wonderful 13 MP camera. So when you hold this smartphone, it feels to hold a great personality – the ribbed back makes it easy to grip and not at all slippery. Also, it doesn’t have any edges so this edge-less design makes it very difficult to get damaged when dropped accidentally. The battery life is quite supportive of today’s fast paced lifestyles.
However, on the negative side, pricing of this smartphone is on the higher side which might be an issue when users simply compare it with other brands in similar feature-range.
Positives – simple, yet elegant design, solid build, decent camera, good battery life, waterproof body, microSD card slot.
Negatives – not as cheap as it used to be, selfie camera could have been better.
