In step with the Smart Cities India Initiative, global technology company Mindteck (India) Limited has launched IGNITE, its versatile Internet of Things (IoT) platform which can be used to build city scale IoT solutions, such as intelligent street lighting, smart parking, EV charging, automated energy/water meter reading, solar power generation monitoring, building energy management and many other smart city use cases.
As a speaker at a variety of industry gatherings in recent past, Mindteck’s VP of Technology and R&D Head, Surjit Lahiri, indicated that Mindteck has already developed ready-to-use solutions for intelligent lighting and building energy management. His keynote address on IoT Opportunities at the Microchip Masters provided details on the current IoT opportunity ecosystem in India, the challenges of executing city scale IoT projects and solutions.
Surjit also presented a paper on IoT for Smart Indian Cities of the Future at the Indian Electronics and Semiconductor Association (IESA) and The Indus Entrepreneurs (TIE) jointly held “Smart Water – Power and Internet Public Utilities for the City of Tomorrow” event. He commented, “It is important that we share experiences between different cities. We need to collaborate, work closely and share lessons learned. These kind of events help boost momentum overall.”
IGNITE can be easily integrated with devices to form specific smart city solutions. Its components include a multiprotocol wireless gateway, wireless load and luminaire controllers, wireless multi-sensor nodes and energy metering nodes, wireless network diagnostic modules, as well as cloud-based devices which monitor and control analytics and reporting.

Mindteck’s IGNITE Intelligent Lighting solution is suitable for outdoor street lighting as well as indoor lighting. Each light can be manually or programmatically turned on and off, or dimmed, from a remote central location via a ZigBee wireless network. When integrated with motion sensors, it offers even more operational flexibility. ROI is a 30-40% energy savings due to dimming and lower maintenance all around.
The IGNITE Energy Management System is designed to optimize HVAC energy consumption in office buildings and deliver at least 20% savings month-on-month. It functions with any type of HVAC and dynamically computes the necessary cooling energy via wireless occupancy monitoring, and multi-point wireless temperature monitoring to suitably throttle the HVAC controls or shut the HVAC down as needed. This ensures an even temperature profile and optimized energy consumption.
