Level 3 Communications, Inc. has announced the expansion of Level 3's Video Cloud Services, a cloud-based solution that moves, stores and delivers broadcast and Internet video on a global scale, to China through an agreement with China Telecom Global Limited (CTG).
This agreement enables Level 3's content customers to access China's diverse consumer market while also allowing CTG's content customers to distribute content and media services globally.
As consumption of Internet video continues to grow across multiple consumer devices, content companies increasingly require the efficient transfer of massive amounts of high-quality video content and data in a variety of formats. China represents one of the fastest growing markets for video consumption and production globally, and through the agreement with CTG, Level 3 is able to offer an efficient, secure and scalable approach to content distribution in the region.
Additionally, CTG will provide access to Level 3's Video Cloud Services for its content customers who are looking to expand their own global audience base. In connection with this agreement, CDN nodes will initially be deployed in Hong Kong, with additional expansion planned across the region.
"China is a significant emerging market for content distribution, and China Telecom is an ideal network partner to assist in efficient, high-quality content delivery across the region," said Mark Taylor, vice president of Media and IP Services for Level 3. "By working with China Telecom we are better able to support our customers' content distribution needs and continued growth within this dynamic market."
"Our content customers increasingly demand access to global CDNs and solutions that will enable them to expand their audiences and grow their businesses," said Pengcheng Fan, vice president of Product Development of China Telecom Global. "We are delighted that our relationship with Level 3 will enable us to address this growing demand and offer our customers a comprehensive content distribution solution."
