As services providers and carriers are increasingly getting under pressure due to a declining ARPU, increasing subscriber base, growing demands of quality services by customers, and at the same time a fervently increasing competition, innovation on customer experience management and better OSS integration can provide the much needed boost to their chances of better profitability.

As far as India is concerned, opportunities such as the ongoing ‘Network for Spectrum’ project is one of the biggest initiatives being undertaken by BSNL and is set to create huge opportunities for the OSS segment as well. This is set to be more than 12,000 crore opportunity.

In addition to this, BSNL itself is in the process of overhauling its network and is looking for better solutions to deliver PCRF application for its network.

As part of the ongoing NFS initiative, BSNL is set to prepare an alternative defense telecom network for armed forces by 2015. This is creating huge opportunities in the OSS/BSS space. Taking a cue from such opportunities, India is also witnessing foray of new age OSS providers such as the Germany based ‘mopay’ to provide its billing solutions in the market.

Additionally, the service provider’s march towards next generation of communication services is also increasing the demand for OSS integration, thereby contributing to the growth of the market.

While there are some operators such as Videocon which are moving straight from 2G to 4G, there are green field telecom players like Reliance Jio which is set to establish new standards in 4G LTE. Moving forward, better integration of customer experience management and exploring innovative revenue streams will decide the winners in this space.
