India’s much sought after numero uno software destination – Bengaluru is very special to Huawei’s Founder Ren Zhenfei. It was his visionary approach and firm belief in Research & Development approach that led to the establishment of Huawei’s R&D facility in Bengaluru – in the year 1999.

What was started in the year 1987 as a telecommunications focused organization in China – has now transformed into a truly global end to end communications solutions and next generation device provider to the world. India and Bengaluru still close to the heart of Huawei – the company has just inaugurated its largest global service center or GSC in Bengaluru.

The Company has its other GSCs based in China, Romania and Mexico

Inaugurating the center and praising Huawei’s founder Ren Zhengfei, Manoj Sinha, the Honorable Minister of State (I/C) for Communications and Minister of State for Railways of the Government of India said that it is Ren’s strong belief in the software capabilities of India and Bengaluru in particular that became the basis for Huawei setting up its Research and Development facility in the city way back in year 1999.

“Ren is a visionary, he started this great organization with a small investment of USD 3500 and now Huawei has grown to become more than USD 61 billion company, employing thousands of people in multiple geographies. He is very special as he holds less than 1.5 per cent shares of Huawei. Ren believed in the India story, very early on. This is why Huawei established its R&D here in Bengaluru in 1999 only,” he added.

‘Make in India’ – Service in India

Reiterating the government’s commitment towards ‘Make in India’, Manoj Sinha said that today India is a favored destination for a number of global organizations.

“This is the second largest mobile market and world fastest growing broadband market. There is huge potential to be tapped here. With this global service center – Huawei is ideally poised to share its unique experiences on global telecom trends around 5G, IoT, Cloud, Virtualisation and develop end to end solutions for the telecoms space,” he added.

As Huawei is an innovation friendly Research & Development oriented organization – whether it is wireless broadband or applications around Internet of Things – Huawei can play a vital role towards nurturing and developing localized solutions to India’s challenges around rural connectivity or better utilizing fiber infrastructure.
