The IP GALA Summit with the theme “Bring Net5.5G into Reality, Inspire New Growth” was held by Huawei successfully at the MPLS SD & AI Net World Congress 2024. This event brought together telecommunications operators, institutions industry standard setters, as well as industry associations to review important topics, such as Net5.5G application implementation, scenario innovation, and target network architecture.

A number of leading telecommunications operators, such as vivo Brazil, Telecom Argentina, and Algeria Telecom shared experiences on live-network applications and innovation practices around critical technologies, such as 400GE, SRv6, slicing, and Network Digital Map in Net5.5G converged transport scenarios. This shows that the implementation of Net5.5G converged transport is running faster to support new growth in telecommunications operator services.

According to Zuo Meng, President , Data Communication Product Line Metro Router Domain , Huawei, new ultra-broadband applications continue to develop, presenting new opportunities and challenges for telecommunications operators. So, telecommunications operators must update the 10 Gbps connection for home broadband . Accelerating the implementation of Net5.5G applications to support the success of telecommunications operators has now become an industry consensus.

How Net5.5G Can Bring New Growth Opportunities for Telecoms

Immersive applications, industrial digitalization and cloudification, and artificial intelligence (AI) applications are driving the development of global ultra-broadband connections and bandwidth. According to Tayeb Ben Meriem, Co-chair, Network Technology, WBBA, to face this growth, WBBA initiated the Net5.5G initiative with its members, including a 10 Gbps campus network with Wi-Fi 7, 400GE converged IP transport, as well as a hyper data center network -converged in the 2025-2030 period.

A number of leading telecommunications operators shared their experiences on live-network implementation and innovative practices in Net5.5G converged transport technology . vivo, Latin America ‘s leading telecommunications operator , has completed SRv6 multi-vendor interoperability and successfully deployed SRv6 on its live network in Brazil. Nelson Jose dos Santos Junior , IP Network Expert, vivo, explained, thanks to the gradual implementation of Net5.5G technologies, such as SRv6, 400GE, and network slicing , vivo will improve the 5G service experience, and maintain its status as a market leader. According to Oscar Paniagua, Transport Network Manager , Telecom Argentina, IP transport networks will evolve into new generation networks that offer ubiquitous access , intelligent connections , ultra-broadband backbone , and slicing as a service . Through innovative practices in network slicing and automation, SLA guarantees are available for a variety of usage scenarios to ensure a high-quality customer experience.

In terms of the development of the Net5.5G network scenario, Pietro Cassarà, Researcher at the Italian National Research Council, pointed out the role of a number of important technologies such as network slicing based on SRv6 and IFIT which are very complementary to the AI-based Network Digital Map. It provides SLA guarantees and automates future network scenarios, such as mesh routing on dynamic topologies for future non-terrestrial networks.

Carsten Rossenhövel, CTO, EANTC, a leading company providing third-party product testing services in Europe, shared the progress of multi-vendor interoperability tests in 2024, as well as a report on the independent invitation test of Huawei’s 19.2T boards. According to the test results, Net5.5G features, such as 400GE, SRv6, and slicing, are increasingly well developed in terms of interoperability.

Huawei also introduced the target network architecture of the Net5.5G converged transport and private line + This architecture includes ultra-broadband , network as a service , high intelligence , and holistic security . Net5.5G series solutions and products support telecom operators to develop complete services and achieve new growth.
