What is Kyndryl’s perspective on the potential of private 5G in India?

Private 5G networks have the potential to revolutionize the way businesses operate in India, offering faster, more secure, and flexible connectivity solutions supporting consumer and enterprise applications.

The Government of India considers this decade the golden period of technological innovations, advancements, and adaptation for the country. Adoption of private 5G will enable a significantly larger bandwidth, faster data transfer rates and lower latency, allowing real-time data exchange and increased support for using advanced technologies such as AI, IoT, and machine learning.

However, challenges remain to be addressed, including the evolving IOT eco-system and the need for regulatory frameworks that support private 5G network deployment. Nonetheless, as the technology matures and becomes more accessible, we expect widespread adoption of private 5G networks in India.

What is your opinion on growth of 5G markets globally, key trends in Edge and the challenges for private 5G adoption?

According to industry estimates, the global private 5G network market valued at USD 1.38 billion in 2021 will expand at a CAGR of 49.0% from 2022 to 2030, hinging on the increasing demand for high-speed internet connectivity and the adoption of IoT devices across various industries.

The emergence of Edge computing has enabled faster data processing and dramatically lowered latency, making it ideal for applications that require real-time response, such as precision machine control and smart cities. The reason behind this leap is the growing volume of data that IoT devices generate and the demand for real-time decision-making in industries such as healthcare, manufacturing, and transportation.

The combination of information and operational technology has opened up an opportunity for Industry 4.0. Integrating data, analytics, and cloud technology with machines will enable more automation, lower costs, and facilitate enterprise transformation.

Governments around the world are taking steps to overcome challenges by allocating licensed spectrum for enterprise use and introducing new unlicensed wireless networking options. However, a bigger challenge is allowing enterprises to customize their deployments to meet business objectives. Private 5G networks must be integrated with a range of other networks and technologies, such as the local area network, wide area network, and public cloud, to enable data transfer and analysis at the optimal location for each use case.

Through our partnership with Nokia, we have more than 100 active engagements with global enterprises, from advisory or testing to piloting or full implementation, across 24 countries.

Please share details on Kyndryl’s expertise in Network Transformation and Edge use cases across sectors?

Kyndryl’s Network and Edge practice provides expertise, services, and technologies that help enterprises prepare for the next wave of cloud with 5G-enabled edge and software-defined networking technologies such as SDN and SD-WAN – regardless of their size and complexity.

Over the years, Kyndryl has led network transformations for various clients across sectors:

Dow faced the challenge of commercial connectivity, with tons of steel and concrete making it difficult to build a wireless network. With 40 manufacturing facilities spanning 20 square miles, the chemical giant also needed help with paperwork and physical checks for security compliance. With Kyndryl’s planning of the pLTE campus solution, procurement, delivery, installation and integration of a Nokia Digital Automation Cloud (NDAC) solution, including Edge, the customer could execute real-time communication between technicians and operators for better troubleshooting and error prevention.

Furthermore, Kyndryl helped them significantly reduce the amount of paper used in business and daily operations.

An Indian multinational conglomerate’s subsidiary that manufactures aluminium and copper, struggled with the unreliability of the existing WiFi network in the plant area, latency from the plant to edge applications, and security and real-time monitoring of assets.

They needed to access the plant’s endpoints with high reliability, especially for moving heavy equipment like cranes. Kyndryl implemented a NDAC solution including Edge with connectivity to various industrial buses that enabled efficient data transmission in mobility applications (e.g., mobile crane with weighing machine), along with quality coverage of cell network and Wi-Fi.

How do Kyndryl’s solutions enable businesses to safely scale network access policies when traditional network architectures become obsolete?

Combining edge computing capabilities with advanced and versatile network security tools – including Kyndryl’s automated programmable SD-WAN infrastructure service– we provide end-to-end services that help companies reduce costs and complexity while providing the flexibility needed to meet changing business requirements.

We recently announced a managed Secure Access Service Edge (SASE) solution powered by Fortinet, which aims to help customers enable advanced network security initiatives. The solution combines Fortinet’s industry-leading cloud-delivered security and secure networking solutions with Kyndryl’s network and security services to design, build, manage, and modernize mission-critical networking for customers across industries.

Additionally, we have developed an AIOps dashboard locally in India with the help of our Network and Data & AI teams, allowing businesses to have a single consolidated view, simplifying the operations. This solution will help customers transform their network and security architecture to reduce cyber risk, costs, and complexity.

Integrating SASE capabilities converges Zero Trust security capabilities into enterprise architectures, becoming paramount to achieving a trusted network security posture.
