Elisa is Tracking and Predicting the Spread of Coronavirus
HUS Helsinki University Hospital is utilizing near real-time COVID-19 situation awareness view and people’s movement data delivered by Elisa to track and predict the spread of coronavirus.
HUS Helsinki University Hospital utilizes the intelligent real-time situational awareness view implemented by Elisa along with aggregated location data to monitor people’s movements to support a deeper understanding and management of the coronavirus pandemic.
Elisa provides HUS Helsinki University Hospital anonymous, aggregated location data and an online solution that pulls data from various data sources. The collected data is then integrated, analyzed and visualized for the HUS management.
From all the collected data, a live situation awareness view is built that HUS uses to monitor and predict the spread of the coronavirus. Elisa’s smart dashboard solution provides several different perspectives on the development of the pandemic and hospital staff and equipment availability.
The online situation view also uses anonymous, aggregated location data provided by Elisa to HUS. This provides HUS a powerful tool to monitor people’s whereabouts in the Helsinki metropolitan area.
Obtaining data from people’s whereabouts is based on how devices utilizing the mobile network and data, such as smartphones, connect to base stations across the metropolitan area. Gaining visibility into people’s movements plays an important role in predicting the effects of coronavirus spread on medical care.
“Understanding the behavior of the coronavirus pandemic and predicting its development in as real time as possible is important to us”, says Juha Tuominen, CEO of HUS.
“A situational awareness solution built with Elisa’s expertise helps us prepare in the best possible way to treat the coronavirus patients and predict the disease peaks. Utilizing movement data helps us see how much people move around the metropolitan area”, says Visa Honkanen, HUS’s Director of Development.
“Elisa’s goal is to create a sustainable future through digitalisation. In an emergency situation like coronavirus pandemic, we bring this into life by helping our society in many different ways. Building a real-time situational solution for HUS will help manage the pandemic because it helps to understand and manage the coronavirus pandemic better. HUS is a world’s leading healthcare organization, often setting a model for other organizations around the world. It is great to be able to work with HUS to curb the corona pandemic”, says Veli-Matti Mattila, CEO of Elisa.
