Globe Telecom has activated its Taal disaster relief operations on the ‘heightened possibility’ of another volcanic eruption.
The telco currently provides Libreng Tawag and WiFi services to three barangays as well as free data access to websites of the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) and the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC).
The Libreng Tawag and Libreng WiFi facilities are available in Barangay Tumaway, Talisay Batangas from February 18 to 21, 9am to 6pm. It was also earlier offered to residents of Barangay Aya and Barangay Poblacion 5 in Talisay Batangas.
The service is being offered as part of efforts by the #OneAyala group. Ayala Foundation provided food packs and 5,000 face masks while Manila Water Foundation will also provide 500 bottles of 5-gallon drinking water to the affected families.
Globe Telecom encourages the public to tune into legitimate news sites and get updates only from authorities such as Phivolcs and NDRRMC to prevent conflicting information about Taal volcano’s activity and the affected cities and barangays.
As a public service, Globe Telecom ensures that access to the websites of Phivolcs and NDRRMC are free for its mobile and Home Prepaid WiFi customers. The following sites may be accessed:

Globe Telecom also reminds affected residents to fully charge their phones, expect to receive SMS alerts from NDRRMC and to stay indoors. They must also be ready to evacuate if needed. They should also prepare a grab-and-go bag, dust masks, and goggles to protect their face from ash and other particles.
