Telia in Finland has started selling used and refurbished high-quality smart phones with a two-year warranty.

”An inspected and repaired Telia Recycled phone with a two-year warranty is a cheaper and more sustainable alternative to buying a new device. Recycled doesn’t mean bad quality. Instead, we have secured the quality of the phones thoroughly. They are naturally cheaper compared to new phones, but they are of high-quality,” says project manager Joonas Panttila at Telia Finland.

The functionalities and the condition of the battery of each Telia Recycled phone will be inspected and before packaging, they will be repaired and cleared from signs of use. The phones can be paid in full or with price plans and will come with an optional insurance. This means that buyers of recycled phones will be able to obtain similar benefits that are usually provided only for new phones.

There are currently six models available for Telia’s mobile contract customers. The phones can be purchased from selected stores in different parts of Finland.

The concept was triggered by customers’ wishes for more sustainable phones and is a concrete example of activities that support Telia Company’s sustainability goals that were announced in March.

In Norway, Telia’s brand OneCall launched the ‘NestenNy’ concept last year and is selling used high-quality mobiles with a two-year warranty. In Sweden, Telia’s brand Halebop offers used phones with a month’s guaranteee at a lower cost.
