Elisa continues to strengthen its fibre network in Central Finland, Tampere region and Northern Ostrobothnia, as Elisa acquires the fibre network constructed by Elenia.
Elenia's fibre network is currently available to around 8,000 households and small businesses in cities of Akaa, Hämeenlinna, Jyväskylä, Kalajoki, Kangasala, Laukaa, Lempäälä, Nokia, Orivesi and Viitasaari. Going forward, Elisa will be responsible for the maintenance and development of this fibre network. The business transaction does not require any action from customers.
In recent years, Elisa has extended its fibre network to more and more households and businesses in Central Finland, Tampere region and Ostrobothnia, where Elisa's fibre network already reaches almost 200,000 premises.
“Already for years, Elisa has offered fixed network broadband services for customers in Central Finland, Tampere region and Ostrobothnia. The transaction will enable Elisa to offer fibre network services for a growing number of customers in these regions. Elenia has done a great work in expanding fibre connectivity in the area, and we are excited to continue developing the network and services. In a bustling fibre market, customers will be reassured by Elisa's responsible long-term business and transparent contract models," says Antti Ihanainen, Vice President of Elisa’s consumer customers subscription business.
Elenia started building fibre networks in 2019 to promote the provision of fast and reliable data connections in Finland. The simultaneous construction of the fibre network in Elenia's network area in connection with the construction of the electricity network offered an opportunity for rational co-building.
“The fibre market has changed over the years, and we want to continue to enable our customers to benefit not only from high-speed telecommunications connections, but also from high-quality fibre services. Elisa has more extensive opportunities than Elenia to develop fibre services further," says Ville Sihvola, Executive Vice President of Elenia.
Elisa's fibre-optic or cable modem-based high-speed connection is available to more than one million households and commercial premises in Finland, and you can check the availability at your address on Elisa's website. Investments in the 5G mobile network are also continuing, and already more than 90% of Finns live within Elisa's 5G network coverage area. You can check the coverage areas of the mobile network on Elisa's public coverage map.
