ConnecTechAsia, Asia’s mega Infocomm, Media and Technology event, kicked off Day 2 with a star-studded lineup of speakers and exhibitors that came together to outline the latest tech innovations and share their expertise and knowledge with visitors from all over the world.

Here are some of the highlights that caught our attention today:

Cybersecurity in the Age of 5G

Shekar Ayyar, EVP of Strategy and Corporate Development and GM of Telco NFV Group, VMware, shared his insights about the emergence of 5G technologies its impact on businesses, specifically communication service providers (CSPs). During the opening keynote, Shekar emphasised the need for CSPs to embed both agility and security in their 5G infrastructure in order to create a secure, multi-cloud, multi-app, multi-device world.

Inside the mind of a Hacker

“In order to best defend against cyber criminals, we must first
understand the mindset of a hacker”, shared Joseph Carson, Chief
Security Scientist & Advisory CISO of Thycotic in his keynote,
highlighting the accelerating race businesses face with evolving
cyberthreats. Closing with a personal anecdote of a hacking project he undertook for a power station company, Joseph highlighted the most overlooked, but yet common risk organisations today face – employees’ negligence in safeguarding their passwords and the management’s difficulty in enforcing this.

For Your Service and At Your Service: Smart AI-Powered Robots

OTSAW launched its O-R2 indoor autonomous security robot at
ConnecTechAsia. Integrating self-driving, AI, data gathering and
analysis, face recognition and live 360-degree streaming, the O-R2
will be deployed to boost security capabilities and deter crimes in
indoor areas such as airports and shopping malls. Solustar also
launched VAL II, its smart concierge robot that gives a boost to
front-line service staff, speaking three languages (English, Mandarin,
Malay) and assisting visitors with directions, printing passes and
more.

The Evolution of Next-Gen TV Advertising – The Way Forward

In a panel comprising executives from FreeWheel, Etere, EMO
Technologies, Havas Media Group Malaysia and Adform, discussed the advent of next generation TV and the shifting ad spend landscape.

Fabio Gattari, Director of Etere, highlighted how advertisers have a
new priority on measuring audiences’ engagements, compared to solely measuring viewership rates a decade ago. Playing up the everlasting relevance of TV amongst various distribution channels, the panellists commented that linear TV is still the optimal medium, being safer than programmatic buying as the latter presents more caveats, in spite of its targeting ability.
