China Mobile Shanghai and Huawei have taken the lead in achieving continuous 5G coverage based on Huawei’s next-generation 5G Easy Macro products in the Yu Garden. This area is also known as the Yuyuan Garden, a scenic spot featuring a classical Chinese Garden in Shanghai’s downtown area.

The deployment enabled the tourist site to successfully guarantee peak-hour service experience for visitors in the recent past May Day holiday during the pandemic recovery.

Furthermore, it will also enable this operator to contribute to the New Infrastructure development in Shanghai and build this city into a global benchmark metropolis in terms of next-generation information infrastructure.

As the pandemic continues to ease, the tourism industry in Shanghai is projected to rebound, with scenic attractions being gradually reopened for visitors. To better ensure quality service experience for the Yu Garden visitors, China Mobile Shanghai has partnered with Huawei to deploy 5G premium networks.

After thorough site surveys and sufficient communication with the property party, both sides have jointly developed building-specific solutions for this tourist destination. Based on Huawei‘s next-generation 5G Easy Macro products, this solution delivers ubiquitous coverage within the garden and a high-speed 5G experience. Moreover, damaging the landscape to the ancient Yu Garden, which is now more than 400 years old, does not occur.

Huawei‘s 5G Easy Macro is the industry-leading pole site solution that supports concurrent 5G NR and 4G LTE services. It supports multiple bands and high power transmission, while boasting a high performance.

With a column-shaped appearance and outdoor-specific coloring and surface treatment, it seamlessly fits into street lamp poles, electric power poles, and exterior walls. This makes it perfectly suitable for operators to build ubiquitous 5G networks in scenic spots as well as time-honored buildings. It was honored with the iF DESIGN AWARD at the 2020 iF International Industrial Design Forum.

The successful deployment of 5G Easy Macro in the Yu Garden epitomizes how it is able to solve site acquisition challenges of traditional base stations. The field test results demonstrated a 5G download speed of as high as 1.1 Gbps, showing that 5G Easy Macro can fully satisfy the capacity and coverage requirements of the Yu Garden and produce tangible improvement in network experience for visitors during peak hours.

In the future, China Mobile Shanghai will continue to implement the “New Network” accord in this city and develop high-quality 5G and fixed networks to ensure dual-Gigabit broadband experience. This will allow this operator to deliver in-depth coverage in key areas while achieving function coverage and scaled applications in various scenarios.

Ma Hongbo, President of Huawei’s SingleRAN Product Line, said: “As one of the most innovative solutions of Huawei’s wireless network products, 5G Easy Macro enables customers to ease site acquisition and accelerate 5G development. In the future, Huawei will continue to innovate on network solutions and help customers build next-generation 5G network infrastructure.”
