Cell C, a telecom operator in South Africa has clicked speeds of up to 138Mbps on a live LTE Advanced site during a demonstration to partners, customers and journalists at the recent exposition AfricaCom in Cape Town, South Africa.
These speeds were achieved on several different handsets. “Cell C has this technology available and the capability to make this a commercial reality. We have demonstrated the possibilities at the AfricaCom Conference. All we need now is the spectrum to become available,” says Cell C CEO Jose Dos Santos. Huawei and Cell C demonstrated the high-speed experience on many different devices by showing live high-definition video streamed on its LTE-A trial site.
Traditionally, indoor coverage is implemented using DAS technology, however, the two companies implemented the innovative LampSite indoor coverage solution, which better serves high-speed services like video. The solution also uses Carrier Aggregation, which accounts for the top speeds that Cell C accomplished on this live site. This technology allows two different frequency bands to be joined together for faster downlinks.
As these technologies develop, there will be more bands that we can bring together, bringing faster services to customers. “Cell C’s continued focus on mobile data is already paying dividends, and we continue to look towards future technologies to keep our customers up to speed,” says Dos Santos.
