BMC TV taps ADVA to transmit Winter Paralympics to UK

ADVA has announced that BMC TV deployed its FSP 150 Carrier Ethernet technology to transmit coverage of the 2022 Winter Paralympics from Beijing to London.

The robust, low-power demarcation device helped ensure highly reliable and cost-efficient services, enabling viewers in the UK to receive live content on high-definition television and online streams.

BMC TV, which specializes in IP transport of broadcast media, selected ADVA for its simple, feature-rich technology and the strong support of its team. The project was also extensively supported by Fibre Technologies, a highly accredited solutions integrator and long-standing partner of ADVA.

“From the moment the starting gun was fired in the 2022 Winter Paralympic Games, audiences in the UK could enjoy every piece of the action. That’s because we were able to transport all video and audio content with the highest levels of quality and availability using the latest studio techniques and ADVA’s edge device,” said Tim Horsfield, director at BMC TV. “We knew from previous projects that we could rely on ADVA’s reliable and intuitive technology as well as the close support of its team. Together, we helped to bring audiences a comprehensive and immersive viewing experience.”

BMC TV selected ADVA for its simple, feature-rich technology and the strong support of its team.
Built on the MEF 3.0-compliant ADVA FSP 150-XG108 Series, BMC TV’s network enabled the British broadcaster Channel 4 to deliver high-definition, on-demand coverage of the games. With a small footprint and featuring a redundant power supply, the ADVA FSP 150-XG108 Series efficiently aggregates 1Gbit/s services into 10Gbit/s wavelengths. The solution has an extended temperature range, removing the need for expensive air-conditioning. Optimized for cost-sensitive, high-bandwidth edge applications, it also features hardware-assisted synchronization.

“We were delighted that BMC TV chose our FSP 150 technology to deliver the Winter Paralympics. We were also pleased to offer comprehensive technical support for the duration of the games,” said Hartmut Müller-Leitloff, SVP of sales, EMEA at ADVA. “For large, time-limited sporting events, broadcast media service providers require solutions that are easy to deploy and simple to operate. With its compact, environmentally hardened design and zero-touch provisioning capabilities, our FSP 150 device provides that simplicity without compromising on performance.”
