Auckland International Airport Picks Spark as Telecommunications Partner

Spark has been named the exclusive telecommunications partner at the international airport duty-free precinct in Auckland, strengthening its existing partnership with global travel retail leader Lagardère Travel Retail.

The agreement secures new prime store locations within the international arrivals area making Spark the only telecommunications provider in duty-free and the first to be seen by more than 4.9 million overseas travellers annually.

Spark Consumer Sales and Service Lead, Mandy Tomlinson says the partnership is an important milestone in the execution of Spark’s SPK-30 strategy to enable better customer experiences and help travellers to get connected quickly and easily.

“Being the first telco many international visitors encounter when they arrive in New Zealand is an exciting opportunity and we can’t wait to welcome them into our fresh new stores designed with customers in mind.

“Through this partnership, we’ll help travellers get connected to the best network coverage in New Zealand[1], as recognised by Opensignal in 2025, with travel packs starting from $29.

“For travellers planning to venture further afield, including into some of New Zealand’s more remote destinations, Spark has also recently launched satellite-to-mobile services available as an optional extra from $10 for travel plans on eligible devices so they can still send and receive texts and access data even when they’re beyond traditional mobile coverage.

“We know that staying connected is a top priority for people when they land in a new country. Our presence within Auckland international airport will make it easy for visitors to get online, contact whānau and start exploring New Zealand straight away.”

Lagardère New Zealand CEO, Cyril Letocart, says the exclusive partnership with Spark reflects a shared commitment to delivering a seamless experience for travellers arriving in New Zealand.

“Our focus is always on delivering a best-in-class travel retail experience for customers. Having Spark present in prime arrivals locations will ensure international visitors can get connected quickly and easily to reliable connectivity as soon as they arrive in New Zealand.”
