Alcatel-Lucent is applying its portfolio of Agile Optical Networking solutions to transform the network of Thailand’s Interlink Telecom.

Interlink Telecom, an emerging player in Thailand’s broadband providers, has installed its network along railways and major road routes across the country, connecting to neighboring Laos, Myanmar, Cambodia and Malaysia.

Alcatel-Lucent is deploying its industry-leading DWDM (dense wavelength division multiplexing) solution with the 1830 Photonic Service Switch (PSS) platform integrated with Wavelength Tracker technology. This will give Interlink Telecom an integrated view across its network, making it easier to monitor performance and identify problem areas in order to maintain its reputation for high reliability as it increases network speeds and capacity. The ability to offer up to 100 gigabits-per-second (100G) will enable the company to support the growing data demands of customers, including mobile operators, enterprises, ISPs, banks and governments.

Alcatel-Lucent’s solution is being deployed during Phase I of the project being launched this month, in 42 stations covering Thailand’s eastern and southern regions, including the busy stations of Bangkok and Phuket.

Nuttanai Anuntarumporn, Managing Director of Interlink Telecom Company Limited said: “We want to maintain our reputation for 99.998 percent network availability and as a result needed to deploy the highest-quality solutions. Following extensive trials we are very pleased to work with Alcatel-Lucent to meet the growing high-speed connectivity demands of our customers.”

Sebastien Laurent, President and Managing Director, Alcatel-Lucent (Thailand) Co., Ltd., said: “Our 100G technology has been deployed in more than 190 customers worldwide and is market proven in deployments across the globe helping customers expand network capacity and decrease costs. With Alcatel-Lucent DWDM, our customers can achieved the lowest cost per bit transmission in the market, since our deployed solutions are ready to evolve to 200G, 400G and 1Tbps, by software upgrade only, thanks to first to market “flex grid” technology. With the innovative Wavelength Tracker technology we can help Interlink Telecom meet all their quality requirements. And we are providing a platform that is flexible enough to help the company expand to 200G capacity as soon as required since it is already available.”
