hayo Debuts Number Verification API to Reduce Authentication Fraud

hayo, a digital infrastructure provider, has launched its Number Verification API. This enables mobile network operators (MNOs) to securely verify mobile numbers at the network level, unlock new revenue streams, and reduce fraud associated with SMS based authentication.

The solution complies with CAMARA and GSMA standards and confirms a mobile number directly through the operator network via SIM-based authentication, without user input. Developed in-house and delivered as a fully managed service, MNOs can quickly go to market without upfront infrastructure investment.

A large share of authentication activity is shifting to over-the-top (OTT) apps, flash calls and APIs that bypass traditional operator messaging channels, leading to revenue leakage. At the same time, one-time password (OTP) SMS is quickly becoming a low-margin,
high-friction channel that is vulnerable to phishing, interception and fraud. Operators have historically been positioned as delivery channels for identity codes, which limits control and monetization. The Number Verification API enables them to move up the
value chain, take ownership of the identity layer and capture revenue from authentication activity, while improving the user experience.

“Authentication value is moving away from message delivery and towards identity verification,” said Feraz Ahmed, CEO at
hayo. “The Number Verification API creates a faster, more secure experience for customers, while enabling operators to monetize authentication events that already cross their network today. It’s a huge opportunity and we’re excited to bring it to more
of our customers in Africa, the Middle East and across the globe.”

hayo’s Number Verification API works in real time to validate a user’s mobile number through their SIM card and mobile network connection. When a user tries to log in or verify their mobile number, the authentication request is routed via a secure API
layer into the operator network, which uses SIM and network data to instantly confirm identity.

This removes the need for codes, apps or user interaction, while providing a secure, operator-controlled authentication method that works across any device. The enterprise-grade solution is TS.43 compliant to ensure global interoperability, with seamless integration into existing operator infrastructure.

“Operators already own the strongest identity asset in the ecosystem: the SIM card. They just lack the infrastructure to monetize it,” said Boaz Yaya, Director of Operator Relations at
hayo. “With the Number Verification API, they can turn that asset into a high-margin, network-driven service that customers can trust. Enterprises benefit from higher conversion rates and lower fraud, while users get a seamless, zero-friction login experience.
It’s a win-win for everyone involved.”

hayo designs, builds and runs critical digital infrastructure. Its Number Verification API is the foundation of a broader portfolio of identity and network APIs alongside SIM Swap Detection, Device Location, KYC Match and Quality on Demand. These are
all live and production-ready, giving operators a full identity and network capability rather than a single-point check.

hayo undertakes the required technology investment, enabling operators to rapidly launch and scale with zero CAPEX. MNOs gain the tools needed to generate new revenue streams and expand their role in digital identity, while restoring consumer and enterprise
trust. The news builds on hayo’s ongoing commitment to protecting critical networks, enabling trusted digital identity, and creating new commercial value for operators from existing network capabilities.
