Equipping 23,000 apartments with Telia Smart Building solutions has enabled Rikshem, one of Sweden’s largest property owners, to be more efficient in its operations, reduce energy consumption, costs and environmental impact as well as to increase tenant satisfaction. While the digitalization journey continues, Rikshem says customer satisfaction has already increased by five percent.

The process began in 2019, when Telia started to connect 30,000 of Rikshem’s apartments across 500 properties in Sweden to its open fiber network, and securing the real estate IT. To date, Rikshem has implemented IoT solutions from the Telia Smart Buildings portfolio, which includes IoT solutions such as Indoor Climate Monitoring – to monitor and optimize operations in 23,000 apartments so far.

“By monitoring the indoor climate, we can identify and adjust discrepancies before they become problems, and we have saved a lot of energy by fine-tuning the temperature in our buildings,” says Daniel Östman, Energy Manager at Rikshem.

Today, Telia Smart Building and Indoor Climate Monitoring are becoming integrated parts of Rikshem’s work progress, enabling increased efficiency and sustainability, as well as more satisfied tenants.

“Since we started monitoring the indoor climate, our customer service has experienced a decrease in the number of calls about the indoor climate. In addition, our tenant survey shows a five-percent increase in satisfaction with indoor temperature in both winter and summer, which among other things can be connected to the monitoring. That is a great result, as customer satisfaction is a priority for us,” says Johanna Lidesjö, Customer Strategist at Rikshem.

The next step in Rikshem’s digitalization journey is to connect and digitalize community buildings such as schools and senior citizen group homes. Rikshem will also evaluate smart solutions that leverage artificial intelligence and machine learning. Once all of Rikshem’s properties are connected to Telia’s secure and stable network, Rikshem will be able to achieve a future-proof way of working, in which decisions about building management and operations are based on data.

“One key learning is the value of choosing the right company to partner with, one that has all the knowledge and capacity needed. It is a big project to connect and digitalize 500 properties all over Sweden, and without Telia we would not have achieved the same results in this short time,” says Fredrik Stenberg, Project Leader for the digitalization of Rikshem’s properties.
