At the recent Philippine Digital Convention 2019, PLDT Enterprise formally announced its Smart 5G Alliance. Composed of global tech leaders and local stakeholders across the business, government and academe sectors, the said alliance is envisioned as an accelerator for 5G innovations within the Philippine setting.

In line with the PLDT Group’s 5G strategy, PLDT Enterprise continues to pioneer efforts that seek to accelerate the country’s 5G adoption. Since November of last year, PLDT-Smart has powered up 5G sites across Luzon, namely at the Clark Freeport Zone, Makati Central Business District, the Ateneo de Manila University, and as of late, the Araneta Center in Cubao.

Together with the Clark Development Corporation, PLDT-Smart continues to explore Smart City solutions like Parking and Security, while its partnership with the Ateneo have pioneered the country’s first 5G campus — complete with a 5G lab to develop solutions for disaster response initiatives. Currently, the group is exploring ways for it to fortify the entertainment experience of the Araneta Center’s customers.

“Our strategy of developing use cases across verticals aims to leverage on the capabilities of 5G — such as enhanced mobile broadband speeds, ultra-low latency, and network intelligence — to further boost the capacity of local industries,” says PLDT FVP & Head of Enterprise Core Business Solutions Jojo Gendrano.

Pioneering members of the 5G Alliance include Cisco, Ericsson, Fujitsu, Huawei, Microsoft, Nokia, Palo Alto, SMS Global Technologies, Araneta Center, the Ateneo de Manila University, and the Clark Development Corporation. Through such partnership, PLDT Enterprise aims to further fast-track 5G adoption across verticals, and in turn, throughout the nation.

“We remain committed to growing the 5G alliance so that we may bring the network’s use cases across platforms, in the hope that this will bring real value to the Filipino public,” said SVP & Head of PLDT and Smart Enterprise Business Groups Jovy Hernandez.

“Ultimately, all our endeavors are aimed at uplifting the lives of our customers through relevant and pertinent solutions,” he added.

The announcement of the alliance was among highlights at the Philippine Digital Convention 2019, together with 5G, IoT, AI, PLDT’s expanded SD-WAN, and next-generation cybersecurity solution. Given the growing demand for big data and real-time data analysis, the selected products are said to be imperative in responding to today’s most pertinent needs — while also setting up businesses to take on the future.
