According to the findings of the latest study done by market research firm, Velocity MR - a minuscule 18% of Reliance Jio Infocomm’s customers are actually using the green field operators connections as a standalone SIM while a whopping 82% are still using it as their second SIM, Bengaluru-based Velocity MR has confirmed this in its latest study.
The study also adds that 86% of present Jio users are looking forward to continue using the company’s 4G services as the “free factor” has been a “major reason” for mobile users to switch to Jio, as per the report.
The study also adds that Jio has been rated highest on call rates and data pack charges and internet speeds compared to incumbent carriers in the country.
The Velocity MR study was conducted among mobile users across major cities of India - including New Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Kochi, Pune and Ahmedabad. The study was conducted among over 2000 respondents in the 18-to-45 age group.
It is important to note that, as Reliance Jio is a green field operator - its entry into the Indian market has disrupted the market dynamics for incumbent operators in the telecom space.
On the issue of call drops, Reliance Jio has been rated below incumbent carriers – Bharti Airtel, Vodafone India and Idea Cellular – who command higher ratings on this metric, confirmed the Velocity study.
As per the study - compared to Jio’s 54% rating, Airtel, Vodafone, Idea and state-run Bharat Sanchar Nigam (BSNL) have been rated higher on the call drops issue at 56%, 57%, 57% and 59% respectively.
On the front of connectivity-related parameters like call sound quality, Reliance Jio with a 72% rating has scored over Idea (69%), BSNL (69%), Tata Teleservices (48%) and Aircel (56%) but trails No 2 carrier, Vodafone India (78%) and market leader, Bharti Airtel (74%).
