In its bid to provide a practical tool to grow the role of women in the economy, fostering professional pathways and helping them steer their own careers, giving them ongoing study and training opportunities in line with market trends.
This is the goal of the Women Plus App that was launched today by TIM, presented as part of 4 Weeks 4 Inclusion, the marathon on inclusion organised and promoted by the Group. The App solution, created by Women at Business, is available from today from major digital stores (iOS and Android).
Based on the experience of ‘Mulheres Positivas’, the project backed by TIM with female entrepreneur Fabi Saad, the work of Women Plus will focus on a number of aspects. Women will be able to find job vacancies thanks to tools that match their skills with available jobs. And they will also have access to mentoring, training and inspirational talks, all within a single system.
According to data from ISTAT (the Italian National Institute of Statistics), in Italy only 55.2% of women are in employment, and 56% of young people who are not in education, employment or training (NEETs) are female. As for education, just 16% of girls choose university courses in STEM subjects. The App has also received backing from the European Commission.
“TIM’s Women Plus App, for women seeking employment, is an excellent example of how a company can help break down the barriers to economic empowerment for women. This initiative is part of a comprehensive approach in line with our gender equality strategy and actions on women’s equality and leadership, to promote the fair division of family roles and encourage the education of women in STEM subjects,” underlined the European Commissioner for Equality, Helena Dalli.
TIM’s CEO, Pietro Labriola, stated, “Our mission at TIM is to connect people, by breaking down barriers and bridging gaps, working to ensure the growth of the entire community. Women Plus is another aspect of this commitment. Gender equality is one of the most important issues we are working on, with concrete steps included in our plan: we’ve placed it at the heart of everything we do, because we want to overcome outdated stereotypes and conventions, doing our bit to create a world where everyone has the same opportunities.”
“Right from the start Women at Business has been a tech project, based on fostering women’s skills to resolve the social problem of female unemployment in Italy. For us, the women and men of this country, the Women Plus App is a great opportunity and at the same time a practical tool to bring about the cultural change necessary to become a more inclusive, fair and sustainable society”, stated Laura Basili Founder of Women at Business.
