Nokia and KDDI Research have entered into a joint research agreement to accelerate the development of sustainable, intelligent and resilient 6G networks. By combining KDDI's real network data and operational insights with Nokia Bell Labs' advanced energy consumption models and features and expertise in programmable network architectures, the companies can jointly explore new approaches to energy efficiency and distributed core network design.

KDDI has announced that "au Starlink Direct," its direct satellite-to-smartphone service, now supports satellite data communication for all models of iPhone 13, iPhone 14, iPhone 15, iPhone 16, and iPhone 17, as well as iPhone Air; a total of 21 iPhone models; allowing users to access essential apps in areas with no terrestrial cellular coverage.
