RADWIN has announced that BitCo, a leading national telecommunications service provider in South Africa, has chosen to replace its 2GHz legacy wireless network with RADWIN’s JET Point-to-Multipoint Beam-forming solutions in 5GHz. Using JET PtMP, BitCo can now deliver up to 100Mbps to enterprise and residential subscribers, providing much higher capacity than ever before.

MiRO, RADWIN’s partner and a leading distributor of Wireless, Networking, VoIP and IP Video products, was responsible for project distribution.

Jarryd Chatz, Chief Executive Officer, BitCo: “The 2GHz licensed network we had established became constrained and couldn’t deliver more than 20Mbps or serve more than 15 customers per sector. We searched for an alternative solution and MiRO recommended RADWIN’s JET. We conducted an extensive PoC, testing JET against other wireless vendor equipment in one of the noisiest high site’s in South Africa with obstructed line-of-sight. At the end of the day, RADWIN’s JET knocked out the competition completely! Other vendor equipment couldn’t get anywhere close to the capacity that JET delivered.”

“We’ve started to deploy JET PtMP in hundreds of sites in Johannesburg, Pretoria and Cape Town. With JET we’ve eliminated spectrum costs and license fees, can enjoy fast roll-out times and our customers are ecstatic with the service they’re getting,” concluded Chatz.

Dewald Swanepoel, BitCo’s Head of Planning and Engineering: “BitCo is expecting exponential growth. We chose RADWIN because we want to be able to deliver speeds ranging from 20-100Mbps on PtMP and RADWIN is the only vendor that can do that in the open spectrum.”

Elaborating on the RADWIN application, Ted de Boer, Product Manager at MiRO, stated: “RADWIN JET is the ideal solution for meeting BitCo’s requirements, and allows the company to assure revenue growth by offering greater capacity packages. In a real-world environment rife with interference and nLOS conditions, we know that JET will overcome these challenges to deliver top-notch performance.”

Peter Turvey, GM Middle East, South & East Africa, RADWIN: “We are delighted by this latest win which underlines the value that RADWIN delivers to service providers whose mission is to provide their customers with superior service. When it comes to our equipment we say: just test it! In real-life conditions where there’s interference, non-line of sight conditions and other challenges to connectivity – that’s where you really see that our solutions outshine the rest.”
