Enel Italia and INWIT have signed the memorandum of intent to accelerate sustainable growth in Italy. The three-year partnership aims to reduce CO2 emissions and optimize the use of economic resources, in line with the commitment to sustainability made by the two companies.

In particular, Enel is committed to the increased use of renewables, decarbonization, digitalization and electrification of consumption, guiding the energy transition towards a more sustainable model. In line with the commitments made in the 2021-2023 Sustainability Plan, INWIT intends to further strengthen its role as an enabler of digital development in support of telecommunication operators, laying the foundations for the development of increasingly reliable and resilient high-quality infrastructure.

Through this partnership, Enel and INWIT therefore seek to contribute to building a country that guarantees greater digital and, therefore, also social, cultural and economic, inclusiveness. The initiatives that may be implemented under this agreement include the development of photovoltaic systems combined with storage systems at INWIT sites and energy consumption efficiency initiatives, also providing opportunities for circular economy through the recovery and reuse of end-of-life materials, alongside sustainable mobility through the electrification of the company’s fleet. Further potential interventions include the use of efficient lighting solutions and the joint development of IoT services.

“Through this agreement - said Carlo Tamburi, Director of Enel Italia - we are further strengthening our commitment to the energy transition. Collaboration with an infrastructure operator like INWIT is particularly strategic for promoting and disseminating circular solutions and fostering the digitalization process, which is one of the fundamental levers for transitioning to a more sustainable model”.

“The collaboration with Enel allows us to give a new boost and speed up on the ecological transformation of our country” - Giovanni Ferigo, INWIT’s CEO, declared - “We are aware of the strategic role played by our business and believe that these agreements, through the sharing of reciprocal competences, are an essential tool in successfully identifying innovative solutions with positive impacts on the general public”.

The Enel Group, world leader in the production of electricity from renewable sources, has been committed for some time now to the pursuit of sustainability policies and the use of electricity in digital technologies too, to allow for the country’s social and economic growth. INWIT, the largest Italian tower operator, shares responsibility for promoting a fairer, more sustainable society thanks to the digital transformation, fostering innovation and inclusion through the adoption of increasingly circular production models.
