Deutsche Giga Access GmbH (DGA) has selected the Adtran SDX series fiber access platforms to offer scalable FTTH service capabilities to its customers.

"DGA wanted to quickly deploy a gigabit-capable FTTH network in a new area in Lower Saxony, Germany, and Adtran provided the right combination of technology, products, local support and domain expertise," said Andreas Bamberg, Deutsche Giga's Chief Technology Officer Access Ltd. “We chose Adtran because their approach enabled us to build a new open-access wholesale network for future-proof services. Services that can be driven by an end-to-end automation management system, providing tremendous operational savings and efficiencies as demand for our wholesale offering grows.”

DGA, a regional wholesale access provider in Germany, will help service providers connect homes and businesses to modern broadband services in selected regions across the country. The DGA will do its part to achieve the goals of Europe's digital agenda and to create fair, open and secure digital environments that create the right conditions for digital networks and services to thrive and maximize the growth potential of the digital economy.

Adtran's combo PON technology and software-defined architecture were differentiators that enabled DGA to accelerate its time-to-market. They also provided DGA with the flexibility to run 1G and 10G FTTH networks simultaneously on the same point-to-multipoint fiber optic distribution network and from a single OLT port.

Adtran's SDN-based network controller supports ultra-short micro-release schedules that accelerate time-to-market. This development allows DGA to significantly reduce their costs of building, operating, innovating and maintaining their network compared to their previous solutions. Adtran also enables DGA to deliver proactive support and services from an open, cloud-based platform for greater adaptability, Provide security and scalable updates. This allows DGA to reduce support tickets and improve customer satisfaction.

“With its new disaggregated combo PON access solution, Adtran offers DGA the flexibility to offer GPON and XGS PON services over the same port and fiber strand. This makes DGA the most cost-effective solution to operate over a fiber optic network,” said Stuart Broome, Adtran's Vice President of Sales, EMEA. “The German altnet market is growing fast as operators look to bring fiber broadband to every home in Germany. A reliable wholesale network that is locally supported and ready to scale services will be a powerful resource for local and regional operators.”

Adtran, Inc. is a global provider of open, disaggregated networking and communications solutions that enable voice, data, video and Internet communications over any network infrastructure.
